They produced just under 20% of our electricity a couple of years ago (the last figures I've seen).

I'm interested in the fusion power generation.  Seems quite amazing if the scientists can actually get it to work.

And on your other point, its pronounced "KnuckleEar".

Sadly, fusion has been promised for soooooooo long now - it seems to have been "20 years away" ever since it was first worked on - about 50 years ago if not more I think.
Last I read was 2040 as a projected date for something that may produce any commercial output - subject to change of course ;o(

Time for a breakfast cappuccino I think....

My view on Nuclear power, is that there is a lot of money to be spent on building, producing and cleaning it up. and it's a difficult area to get information about....especially when the information can be so easily withheld for "official secrets" reasons. My own life experience has taught me that corruption is impossible to avoid when large sums of money are involved...perhaps that's why they like nuclear power so much. Our government likes to pay top dollar (a UK expression) for anything it buys and then spend public money fixing the problem....sorry to sound cynical. The best way forward is not to atom smash our way into the next century, but find much cleverer and more elegant ways of doing things.

Part of that is to turn off our coffee machines at night or when they are not really being used, plus similar small energy saving activities with our houses and cars. The other part is to take our lessons from nature and work with it....before we kill most of the people on the planet....unfortunately, whilst the large corporates control government, this will probably never happen.
