Hi, my name is Andrew. I live in New Zealand.
I have a background in biochemistry, but am taking a break from studies cooking for a small cafe. I recently got coffee training, and am impressed that coffee can actually taste *nice*! That was an amazing revelation. After tasting the coffee of a national barista champ finalist, I have been converted. The stuff people call "coffee" and the stuff experts can produce are nothing alike. I want to learn!!

Hi all . DD here from Ohio and NC. Been drinking coffee since I was 5 yrs old. French Grandfather...he gave me half and half.... half coffee/ half creme (the real stuff only, please) and sugar but only in the early AM. Need a good strong coffee to be able to taste it with creme (lots but not half anymore) and sugar (not much). 100% creme is a luxury..mostly half and half now. I have a french press which is my favorite way to make coffee. If I want a 'pot' of coffee, I use my Krups coffee/espresso maker. But I very rarely make or drink espresso. Coffee EVERY DAY of the week. Frothy milk is nice in strong coffee too. Doesn't have to be espresso.
I also have a Krups pod coffee and make my own pods (perfect pod maker) with my own fresh ground coffee. Make up enough for a few days. I either have the French press and the pod on the counter or the Krups. Depends on the seasons and my mood. And the beans. Very special beans get the French Press...good beans get the pod and everyday get the drip maker :) The pod coffee machine makes stronger coffee than the drip. I'm sure you coffee purest and espresso gurus wouldn't like it but I do. It does use pressure and I get the grind very fine for my pods.
Evenings or with dessert I like black coffee.
I found this site looking for a manual coffee mill. I researched and learned and I was point to a site and found a vintage Zass. Should be here soon. Excited to try it...heard it's a workout but that's ok. That's all.

Hi Denise & welcome to the forums! Coffee for me currently is made either in the french press or the moka pot(espresso strength), sometimes with half'n'half but usually black.

Hi there! Long time reader and coffee addict (my wife and I call ourselves "snobs", tho) but only recently joined the community. My wife and I just moved from Washington, DC to Seattle, WA in large part because of the better local coffee options available in the Pacific Northwest... :)
I also help run the web site for an environmental conservation non-profit, The Nature Conservancy, and am exploring the links between coffee, conservation, and the future of our planet. In fact, I've posted a question in the Home Roasting Talk forum at "Roasting at home = better for the environment than buying at a store?" asking if roasting your own coffee at home (which I'm getting better at) is actually better for the planet than buying mass-marketed unsustainable coffee at a (gasp!) grocery store.

Hellooooo! I am a coffee house owner in Hampton Virginia in an area known as Phoebus. We opened in Oct of 07 in a renovated building built in 1911. I am a self proclaimed coffee snob, tho I am not what you'd call an efficianado (sp). I just love coffee. I've been reading vaious posts and forums here for awhile, and have gotten some good info. By the way, we are interested in hosting a gathering to meet our local baristas and do a little latte art and drink coffee. Anyone interested should e-mail me at anne@phoebuscoffee.com. Thanks

Hi i'm David. I was bought a Magimix L'expresso and a Krups grinder for christmas. Since then i've been learning - a lot.
I've just bought a Ascaso I-mini as a reasonable upgrade (for my price range) very pleased with it though i've only had it a few days. i've doubled the crema on my shots and they no longer taste metalic and bitter (Stupid Krups).
I have three big questions and i cant seem to find an answer.
1) is there a known mod for the chute of my Ascaso mini to stop the grinds build up? It is really bad. (but the grind is so good!)
2) is it possible to get 54mm baskets that will fit my portafilter that do not have a pressure regulater thing in them? Magimix certainly do not do them.
3) general concessus seems to be that a Rancilio Silvia is on of the best starter prosumer models. I can find this on ebay, new for £314 about $616 (including delivery). Is there some catch or does this sound about right? Doubt i'll be able to get one till christmas but i'm becoming very geeky about my coffee and i think this would be the next step. (along with a reg barber, super acurate scales and some barista lessons!)
Is there somewhere specific i should be posting these questions?
