This cracked me up....I took this picture myself today when I saw this sign. We have a brand new Chevron gas station nearby, and when they opened they claimed they would have the cheapest gas in town.
The Shell station across the street decided to call them out and a price war ensued. At one point they were selling gas for around $2 per gallon. There was gridlock for several blocks in all directions and 2 different news stations covered the story from helicopters!
Yesterday I filled my tank at $3.28/gallon at Chevron - but it wasn't the cheapest gas in town!
It's sad but true these days with the competition. I've noticed more than a few gas stations in my area have completely closed down and been demolished in the last few years, so I can imagine how some are really getting desperate. I also remember reading an article where a gas station owner shot another owner over lowering their prices. Crazy stuff...

I thought it was a hoax until I saw that you took the picture. 2 things strike me as funny, 1. the penny difference, 2, they mention unleaded. Do they even SELL leaded? :) Still is pretty funny. Why didn't you fill up for the penny less?
$3.28 a gallon?? Wow! I haven't seen 3.28 in a very long time. Currently the cheapest price near me is $3.99/Gallon for regular (unleaded) . In June I paid $4.57 and had to search to find that low.

More like the difference between living in California (or Connecticut) and a State that doesn't tax the pi*s out of ya.
I live in Connecticut, and our gas price is about the same as California, if not more. Our State adds on about 50 cents a gallon (if not more) for tax; yet at the same time we have an 84 million dollar surplus.
http://www.torontogasprices.com/ An average of $1.24/L x 4.54L = $5.63 Can gallon. The US gallon is one liter smaller (160oz - 128oz = 32oz/1liter), so approx 22% less price = $4.39 USD., not accounting for the diff in the exchange rate.
