This cracked me up....I took this picture myself today when I saw this sign.
We have a brand new Chevron gas station nearby, and when they opened they claimed they would have the cheapest gas in town.

The Shell station across the street decided to call them out and a price war ensued.  At one point they were selling gas for around $2 per gallon.  There was gridlock for several blocks in all directions and 2 different news stations covered the story from helicopters!

Yesterday I filled my tank at $3.28/gallon at Chevron - but it wasn't the cheapest gas in town!

Check the pic  :-)

Just like the "good old days".  I hate war but I love gas wars.  How can we get one started in California?

It's sad but true these days with the competition.  I've noticed more than a few gas stations in my area have completely closed down and been demolished in the last few years, so I can imagine how some are really getting desperate.  I also remember reading an article where a gas station owner shot another owner over lowering their prices.  Crazy stuff...

I thought it was a hoax until I saw that you took the picture.  2 things strike me as funny, 1. the penny difference, 2, they mention unleaded.  Do they even SELL leaded? :)  Still is pretty funny.  Why didn't you fill up for the penny less?

$3.28 a gallon?? Wow!  I haven't seen 3.28 in a very long time.  Currently the cheapest price near me is $3.99/Gallon for regular (unleaded) .  In June I paid $4.57 and had to search to find that low.

The Shell station has 8 pumps, the Chevron has 18 pumps.  There was a line at Shell but no waiting at Chevron.

More like the difference between living in California (or Connecticut) and a State that doesn't tax the pi*s out of ya.

I live in Connecticut, and our gas price is about the same as California, if not more.  Our State adds on about 50 cents a gallon (if not more) for tax; yet at the same time we have an 84 million dollar surplus.

The price you pay for living in a blue State.

OK, thats as political as I'm gonna get.

Count your blessing that you don't live up here in the Great White North, Canada & paying our gas prices..! {:-(

Of course your US gallon is equivalent to 3.85 Liters, & a Canadian gallon which doesn't really exist anymore is 4.54 Liters.

http://www.petro-canada.ca/en/media/2128.aspx

http://www.torontogasprices.com/  An average of $1.24/L x 4.54L = $5.63 Can gallon. The US gallon is one liter smaller (160oz - 128oz = 32oz/1liter), so approx 22% less price = $4.39 USD., not accounting for the diff in the exchange rate.

My brother & his family just visited the Canadian side of the Niagara Falls.  Over $12/gallon for gas.  Whats with that!?
