Hi, we have a Gaggia Red Espresso maker, 2 years old, no problems until now.
We bought our machine in winter and got in the habit of preheating our cups using water out of the machine. Today it started spitting at us as if it were too hot (Thermostat problem???). I pumped a lot of water through the system thinking it may be a once off, but we had the same problem then making the espresso – what a mess. I removed the filter and cleaned it, and the gasket seemed OK, as did the spring and valve, but after reassembling we had the same problem. The only other previous maintenance was removal of scale, and we now use filtered water anyway.

I have a comparable problem: I bought my parents a full-automatic (I know, blasphemy, but they're not the kind of people who like to tak time for good coffee, I stick to my AeroPress), a Saeco Odea Giro Plus. And sometimes it start "spitting" as well. I have no idea why it does this, it occurs very sporadicly, one time it spits, another time it doesn't...
life's to short to drink bad coffee preferred brewing method: AeroPress
