My "powder box" (from one of my alma maters in LA) is nearly empty, and I'm looking for a recommendation on some quality gun powder green tea. No yard clippings, please.

I've had some really great teas from Light of Day Organics out of Traverse City, MI. Last I checked they had a gunpowder green. I haven't personally tried so I can't vouch, but I've quite liked their (her) earl grey, caffeine convert, and cinnamon teas. She'll be my next order of matcha as the quality in other teas has made it worthy of a shot in the dark try. Let me know what you find!

Thanks for your recommendations. jwsnyder, Light of Day looks like some great teas, but I'll try some of the less expensive ones to begin with. Zhena's has pretty good stuff. We sold their tea at one of the shops I worked at. Conventional product, but the price is lower.
Thanks, Len, I think I'll start there! When it comes to tea, "good" is good enough. I'm a big fan of gunpowder, white silver needle, darjeeling, oolong, and Earl Gray. But it's hard to navigate so much of the garbage tea out there.

My wife enjoys Earl Gray and gets it at CoffeeBeanDirect. Whenever she makes some I sneak a couple sips. It is quite good.

I'll add another plug for light of day's earl grey. I must sound like a rep, but I'm not, I just really love her teas that I've tried, ESPECIALLY the creamy earl grey. I hadn't had one that manages to get the creamy mouth feel so perfectly without any cream. And the bergamot is just right. Ugh, time to go put some water on this morning to make some!
I know it's expensive, but, at least for me, the earl grey is easily worth it (will report back on others like her matcha as I try them). I think the only earl grey I've had that was better was at a very high-end tearoom in London in 2007 but that might not actually be all tea I'm remembering as the place was other-worldly. I'm certainly no expert, but I've had my share of really good teas. Light of day is the top of my list for regular earl grey purchases.

I read their description of creamy Earl Grey. It sounds interesting, and who knows, I might like it, but I think I would prefer a straightforward classic Earl Grey. Maybe I'll give it a try down the road a bit--after I've had my "classic" fix.
I'm going to give CoffeeBeanDirect a try for gunpowder and Earl Grey. I know what you mean about getting the bergamot right: with Earl Grey, most have miserable-quality black tea to begin with, or the bergamot is too heavy or too light. I got Earl Grey from Metropolis last, and it's okay, but I'm going to move on. There are little purple-ish flowers in it (leaves?), and I'm not sure what they are, but they seem to lend a too heavily-aromatic element to it. My ideal Earl Grey is good quality (not necessarily 'top') black tea--not Assam--with the right ratio of bergamot (subjective, I know!). It's about a well-rounded balance.
