To all you motorcycle riders out there, this is nuts. 1st person video of Yamaha R1 going over 186 MPH on Trans-Canada Highway on Vacouver Island where speed limit is 50 mph. If you're a biker, put yourself on that seat and envision yourself racing down that highway ... what a trip.

Very interesting! As a law enforcement officer, I personally pulled over a 24 year old on a Yamaha R6 doing 165 mph. He didn't even know we were giving chase!! It got dark and I caught him on a very twisty road that he didnt know ( But I did!) The cruiser I was in only did 150, but he could not ride faster than his lights. I had some custom halogens. He was quite surprised that I could keep up with him. And, we just put on a set of really sticky Michelins on the cruiser. Seems they worked really well.....but only get maybe 18,000 miles on a set.
Caught him, booked him, towed the bike, and brought him to jail. His comment: "I just got the bike and was seeing how fast it would go!! He was clocked at 165.....perhaps he could go faster.
I have a sport bike myself......I understand the need for speed, but I also understand the need for safety.
On that note, I think I'll have a cup of Kenya AA done in my Hario Nouveau!! Aaaah! Great memories!

I have always been very curious about what you do once you catch up to someone - I always figured you would have to radio in to someone up ahead to block the road. But if it is just you in your cruiser - once you've caught up with him do you just stick to him and wait for him to run out of gas or give up? How do you get him to stop?

I fully support motorcycle riders (many in my family).
But this guy infuriates me. He shows a complete disregard for not only for his safety but the safety of the other drivers, I agree with you Craig, he needs to go away for a long, long time.
Other responsible motorcycle enthusiasts I'm sure will agree.
They believe he is in the U.S. now, and of course is in BIG TROUBLE.

I DID have help from a Louisiana State Trooper: he clocked the speeder at about 170+ and by the time he gave chase, the bike was far out of sight. He radioed his position and I was in the right place at the right time.
In cases like that, we are ordered to pull off from the chase if it gets too dangerous and radio ahead. Sometimes they don't stop. In this case, the guy didn't really know he was being chased until I turned the bar lights on. He stopped on his own after a brief chase: he figured he would crash. I figured he would crash, too, and really didn't want that. It worked out well for both of us.
All in all, he seemed a good guy.....just got carried away by the "rush!"
And, the end note of the story: After I had him pulled over about 5 minutes, the State Trooper came skidding up and helped drive the bike up on the tow truck. Would you believe HE had a Yamaha R1 himself! That's why he knew what he was chasing.
