Subject: Gaggia Colour Espresso

Hi,
I wonder if anyone can help me with my espresso machine. I do not seem to get any pressure or water flow from the brew head.
I've been on various forums, looked in the instructions and tried leaving the machine on, letting steam come out with both button pressed down, letting water flow without the holder in position and nothing at all works!!
Any help would be appreciated.
Many thanks
Euan

Welcome to CG, another Gaggia user.

Is the machine new?  If not, when was it descaled?

Do you hear the pump run?

Does it pump water out the steam wand with the wand open, and pump on? You can do this cold, not trying to steam.

The machine is about 18 months old. This has happened before but I managed to fix it by getting rid of air bubbles. I've never rescaled it but I don't live in a hard water area ( Scotland). The pump runs fine and the steamer works fine also. The brew head tries to push out the water but you can hear the pump getting quieter and no water comes out.

If it pumps water fine from the steam wand and not the brew head, then I suspect that the brew head is scaled.  Look at this diagram.  21, 22, 23 and the group can get scale.  You may need to descale in spite of your seemingly soft water.
