I come from a family of coffee growers in Puerto Rico. I grew up running through coffee shrubs and drinking stove top pot coffee. I started to appreciate espresso 2 years ago and since I have been considering to buy an espresso machine and a grinder.
Well, the waiting finished today and I'm the proud owner of a Rancilio Silvia and waiting for a Baratza Virtuoso to arrive on Wednesday.
Coffeegeek.com Guides, reviews and forum greatly influenced my buying decision and I'm expecting to receive your guidance through this new coffee adventure.

Evening fellow geeks!
I'm a coffee lover and barista in hackney, London. I'm a barista in two cafe's and have been in the trade for about 9 months now.
Only recently though, as i begin to hone my skills now i work more often, am i really getting "geeky" about my espresso shots, and just want the very best of everything. I want to know much more, and looking forward to chatting with people about their experiences, and sharing info!

I've been lurking around for a little over a month now. I started with a cheapo Mr Coffee steam pump a few years ago, then switched to a Moka pot once Mr Coffee died. It's time to move to a real espresso machine—I think I've settled on a (used) Rancilio Silvia and Rocky grinder. Now I'm just waiting for the right deal to pop up.

Hi, new member who just found this site while looking for help with a new used Gaggia machine.
I've been drinking espresso since the 1960s, long before it was popular in the US. I remember as a college student bringing a machine back from Europe, changing its plug to one that would fit an American outlet, and hoping for the best. It worked adequately until shortly before college graduation, at which time our dedicated group of coffee geeks (four of us had espresso with anisette or grappa every night after dinner when few Americans had ever heard of grappa) gave the poor machine a decent burial.

Hi, I'm Carlos and started drinking coffee in Cuba at age 5. No, it does not "stunt your growth", LOL. We love our espresso and have a Spidem Trevi Automatica, which has worked great for ~9-10 years. My question is re: one of the adj. knobs not covered in the manual. There are 2 knobs in the hopper, surrounded by the beans. The larger one, scaled from 1-12, is for grind adj. But the smaller one, closer to the front of the machine, is set at 0 and has a + and - scale with dots, no numbers. Is that for temp. setting or something else? If any of you could tell me, I'd really appreciate it, thank you.

Hello folks! I'm a 19 year old coffee enthusiast from Oslo, Norway. Just recently, I started working in a freelancer's cafe in the inner city and learned one thing or another about making good espresso. I'm far away from being able to pull it off consistently, but every now and then, a customer tells me I've made a really good cup and that makes me proud and motivates me to continue. In the cafe I work at, we have a Nuova Simonelli "Appia", which I heard is supposed to be a pretty standard machine. It does its job well, but lacks a few things here and there. Nevertheless, I enjoy working with it and meeting new people everyday. To be honest, I've dreamt about working in a cafe since I was little, and it's just amazing as I'd imagined it.
I've come here to the forums to improve my knowledge of and skills with espresso creation and am sure that I'll have a great time around here!

Hey, I am Lauren *waves* I have a older Saeco Magic Plus superautomatic that is AMAZING. It 7,775 shots pulled from it and it is still in perfect working order. I found this forum and have been loving it!!!! I live in Tacoma WA and feel blessed to have so many amazing niche indie roasters in my area to try! I found Stumptown Hairbender through this forum & I LOVE it. I just put in an order of REdBird (Espresso & JAg) and can't wait to run it through my baby. I have been through a lbs of coffee in less than a week, this an expensive habit! This last week cost me $32 alone, Just in coffee! I work from home & am a self proclaimed espresso addict.
