I wonder how Starbies will react. Pink slips for participants? How about independents? Can they "sign on"?
And to be fair, maybe Playgirl can run the "Men of Starbucks" :)
Mark,
After the recent round of feminism and meninism (that a word ? needs to be) I think I will just say that it is an interesting article and let it go at that. Thanks for the (adjective of type of link omitted) link.
BCBongo's postings were deleted because he personally attacked a board member with sexist, suggestive remarks directed straight at a board member.
That breaks the rules.
Talking about romance, a crush on a female (or male) barista at a local cafe, or the newsworthy (yes, because it will be interesting to see how the starbies /playboy thing plays out) or sex in a non offensive way when somehow it involves coffee (ie, "I think caffeine increases my sex drive!!" or something like that; or similar) is, as far as I'm concerned, fine when coffee is the topic, or there's a socializing aspect in the off topic forum.
I'm not going to police the boards to the point were any kind of extreme political correctness rules the day or people fear saying the words "sex" or "lust" or "God" or even lowercase "god" because they may be deleted or locked down threads. That ain't gonna happen, and I hope the active mods continue to practice this hands off approach. :) BC Bongo's attack against a female member totally crossed the line; but personally, I had no real issues with BC Bongo's original post about lusting after a barista. I saw the post, and there happened to be three women in the house at the time - Jeanette and two of her friends. I showed the post, and they laughed at how juvenile it sounded, but they were certainly not offended.
As far as Playboy featuring the women of Starbucks in a future issue, I'll reserve comment on whether or not I'd buy the issue, but I will say this - Jeanette was the one who brought it to my attention (it's also in her news section), and my main interest will be to see how Starbucks reacts down the road in terms of its Baristi if they pose for the mag.
What will be most interesting is this: the anthropologist in me wonders if this kind of, ahem, "exposure" will elevate the prominence and "importance" of the Barista in the average American psyche (well, for the males at least). I could actually debate the point either way - show how it could, and show how it wouldn't.
I think that the Bongo posting got a little out of hand, but I didn't have a problem with the original post. Neither do I have a problem with posting "sex", "god" or even "God". I'm sorry that I got a bit riled up on Bongo's posts.
