This is a smoky, dark New Orleans style drink.
A light coating of espresso in the portafilter, enough to cover the bottom. Then a nice layer of ground chicory (about the grind of drip coffee), top off with the usual amount of espresso. I find that this all works best on a doppio shot.
I lay the chicory in the middle so that it won't plug the filter. Pull the shots, the chicory makes for a tighter tamp and runs a longer shot.
Add a 2 to 1 ratio of cinnamon to vanilla syrup to the cup.
Froth up some nice milk, I prefer a wet cap style for this, but different strokes and all that. Pour the milk.
Drop shots into the foam.
Dust the top with one of the brown sugar/cinnamon toppings. (because of the dusting I don't worry about milk art)
