This page just about has it all http://www.callihan.com/seattle/coffee.htm Now I also know how to make a Caffe Medici, which I used to enjoy at the Last Exit (for those of you in the Seattle area), in what seems like my previous life.

In my world, a machiato has always been a shot or two with a generous dollop of foam on top and served with a lemon wedge. I don't know what that thing they call a "machiato" is at McCoffeeBucks. I think its just a caramel latte with a name thought to be more appealing to yuppies.

In Buckyland the Carmel Macchiato is a vanilla latte that has caramel sauce drizzled on top. They pour the espresso on top of the milk to get a "mark" and then apply the caramel sauce. In normal Coffeeland it is the espresso topped with milk foam. Of course it is always interesting to see the confused look on a "Volvo-driving-Soccer-Mom's" face when they order a Caramel Macchiatto and you explain to them what it is. Oh, and then of course I love it when they say, "Well, thats not how they make it at Starbucks!" hmmm, guess I am sounding a little bitter today. I think I need a vacation! :)

Hi there! You have to separate Latte macchiato from Caffè macchiato. Caffè macchiato is the espresso with just a tad foam (if not a macchiato freddo = a drop of cold milk). Latte macchiato is a Caffè latte with more milk, or less coffee. Macchiato means "Stained" in Italy. Stained coffee and stained milk!
