i am no coffee novice by any stretch of imagination but I hope this post is not too "common knowledge" I have experimented with a drink lately...i like to call it a cold breve, cold latte or American latte if you will. I will ask my barrista to simply give me a shot of his/her best espresso....then I will ask her to charge me for a breve or latte..(i hate to be a bum) then i will proceed to the condiments table and add either half and half or whole or skim milk (depending on what they have at hand) then i will enter a sublime espresso experience....i find this to be an exqusite taste...to me...a really hot latte or hot breve simply ruins the taste...i cant taste the bean at all because its simply too hot....so this lukewarm (but fresh-made) drink is simply marvelous to me...also, if you are really in a hurry, this is a quick way to get your "fix".....hope you like

If that's the case I apologize to Jason. I misunderstood the point he was making. Thanks Mike. However, I have to admit I sometimes drink coffee (which includes espresso) quickly and never could drink or eat "hot" foods. So adding a cold milk product to a brew is necessary for me in some cases. Isn't that just the cost of doing business? I've seen lots of people add a ton of milk to a drip coffee which isn't nearly as expensive as espresso shots. Interesting debate though.

jeez...i am new to this site so imagine my surprise getting a response to my post...i had no idea....you guys mean business, huh?.......i just want to defend myself....i have never paid for just and shot and then gone hogwild at the condiment table...my fav barrista knows exactly what I am up to and has no problem with it...after all, i still tip her and she does not have to go through the fuss of a latte when she is slammin' busy...also, to state this is a ghetto latte is borderline rascist, derogatory and offensive (at least to me)....i do not smoke and have a grasp of quality taste ( i am a cook and waited tables for years)....the taste of my Cold Breve is marvelous.......so there
p.s in hindsight...i see the fuss.....i made a HUGE mistake upon reading my original post.!!!.....i said 3 shots etc.....honestly....if she is to give me three shots, I then ask her to charge me, of course, for the three shots and then a little more for the milk I am about to add ....or ....I tip her very well...she knows my MO......my apologies to ALL........I see the furor, indeed....

no biggie man, but i hear about people doing stuff like this a lot and it is quite frustrating for cafe owners...(especially if you're purchasing a double shot and adding 16oz of cream to it...) may i suggest an iced latte? or if you're feeling sweet, an iced mocha?
I think the adjective "ghetto" is used by people who are not poor to describe something that is born out of poverty, without regard to racial characteristics (although race and class are often inseperable), and it is sometimes used as a compliment. When I encountered it in my peers in the 1990s, I found it offensive at first, but then as I understood more about how it was used, I began to change my attitude toward this particular usage. The Urban Dictionary (which might be referred to as a "ghetto" dictionary) on the Internet gives a good definition of the usage Jasonian referred to:
3. (adj.) poor; of or relating to the poor life; 4. (adj.) jury-rigged, improvised, or home-made (usually with extremely cheap or sub-standard components), yet still deserving of an odd sense of respect from ghetto dwellers and non-ghetto dwellers alike
Examples: 3. Jane hid her head in embarrasment as her mom shamelessly committed the ghetto act of stuffing the restaurant's bread rolls, sugar packets, and silverware in her purse; 4. "A TV Guide duct-taped to a 4 foot stick?! That's one hella ghetto 'mote control!"
