Ok, so here I sit with a 1500$ machine and 1400$ grinder.

I can make hot drinks till I am blue in the face no problem,

but ask me to make you an iced lattee and all I do is put ice in a cup, add sugar and whole milk, than add 2 shots on top of it all.

It tastes good to me, my family likes it but being this invested and referred to as an "espresso expert" by my friends and family (which Im not :D ) I think its time for me to at least have an idea of what I should be doing.

Are there any resources out there that could help me become an expert at cold espresso drinks, and if not an expert at least knowledged enough that I could swing it at a caffee?

Thanks

I hate wattered down iced espresso drinks so here's my recipe:

Chill glasses in freezer while machine heats.
in a small bowl prepare a slurry of crushed ice and water.
Draw shots into stainless steel shot glass(es). or (in a pinch) into a small steaming pitcher.
put the shot in the bowl to chill. ...NO don't pour it in....!  ;^) (takes only 1-2 minutes to chill)
Glass out of freezer, add ice, pour in your shot and add milk or whatever to taste.

(I go with 1/3 espresso, 1/3 ice, 1/3 milk)

We all have to start somewhere, and sometimes you've got to have the tools before you can acquire the skills. Looks like you're off to a good start! For a great flavored iced latte, start off with a chilled glass and follow these steps in order:

1 Shot Chilled Espresso
1 1/2 oz. (6 pumps) Syrup
8 oz. Cold Milk or Half & Half
Ice

1.In a tall glass add chilled espresso & flavoring.
2.Fill with cold milk or half & half and stir well.
3.Add ice and garnish with whipped cream (optional).

The order of the recipe is vital. You NEVER want to pour an espresso over ice - this will leave it tasting bitter. ALWAYS chill your espresso, and add your ice last. The recipe above should yield one 16oz serving. You can omit the flavoring for a traditional non-flavored latte.

This is my iced recipe

Iced Almond Coffee
This iced coffee recipe is heavy on the milk, and isn't over powered with the tastes of the vanilla and almond.

Ingredients:

2 cups cold coffee
2 cups milk
1 tsp vanilla extract
1/2 tsp almond extract
3 tsp fine sugar

Directions:
Combine all ingredients, and pour over ice into tall glasses.

A friend of mine uses a chilled shot of espresso, adds the desired amount of milk and sweetener, and then uses coffee ice cubes instead of regular ice.  That way the drink doesn't get watered down and you can take your time!!
