To be fair these are called Espresso Roast, which is different than espresso. Starbucks and other larger roasters offer an Espresso Roast as another term for a dark or full bodied coffee blend. Confusing? Maybe to us, but since most in N. America own coffee makers and not espresso machines not much can be gained from arguing about the semantics to another shopper in the coffee isle at the local supermarket.
The Adapter does create a restriction in flow similar to what the original Senseo pod holders provided. New model Senseo machines in N. America create less of this "false" crema (similar to a pressurized filter basket for an espresso machine) so the "espresso" adapter reverts the cup back to the foamy top. We can agree it does not make a true espresso compared to our machines but it does make something stronger than coffee.
Below is my Senseo 7860 brewing 2 fl oz of Velton's Bonsai Blend (outstanding coffee) using the "espresso" adapter with a home made pod. What ever it might be called, it was tasty...

I chew coffee beans with my teeth while gargling with 195 F water to enjoy coffee. What is this "coffee brewing" device you speak of?

I don't know how they're maketed in the U.S., but in Germany those pods are sold under the label "espresso" not espresso roast: click here. (The page is unfortunately only in German.)
I agree that the Senseo espresso pad holder works similar to a pressurized portafilter, also reducing the flow, so that there's less volume in the cup.
