Hi Folks.

We're still digesting all the feedback from Jeanette's article - CoffeeGeek and You. Several things are in the works, but one of the more recent changes you'll see is that we'll be inserting Google AdSense text ads into the forums. Fairly unobtrusive, and tied to content, you'll see, depending on how many posts you view (your setting in the forums setting thing), one or two google adsense text links incorporated between some forum posts.

That means, if you are viewing 10 posts per page, the second or third post "space" may have text links. If you view 25 posts per page, you may see google adsense text links at the third post, and the fifteenth post space.

They will be clearly identified, but will fit into the look and feel of our forums layout.

Because of the tragedy that is Hurricane Katrina, for the first 30 days, or first $1,000 raised via google adsense insertions (whichever comes first), I'm going to donate that entire amount to the relief efforts, as a roll off for the google adsense placements, and to give CoffeeGeek's part to the relief effort.

In addition, I'll see if we can get direct links for donations to Katrina relief efforts incorporated in other parts of the website.

Cheers

Mark

Glad to hear that you are doing this.
I hope that in the future CG becomes consistently self-sustaning if not profitable for you . . .

I have (for now, more planned) put a new poll up on the front page, and provided a link to the Red Cross donations. I think Paypal is doing a donation scheme button very soon, and I will probably change over to that to make it more tied in with CG.

So if you want to donate now, there's a link on the front page to the American Red Cross.

Gee Mark,

They fit in so well I can't even see them :)

so is this a click-based thing, or a sale-based thing? (as in, if I want to be supporting coffeegeek, can I just click on a few ads every now and then, or do I need to be buying from the ads?)

cheers.

click based is my understanding - works best on a site with lots of traffic to get the clickthru rate up.

Advertisers pay to have their ad served up based on keywords, site hosting gets a cent or whatever...
