I have to say that I like my pseudonym. If anyone wants to know my last name, they can just ask. I am not hiding it, I just don't feel like advertising it. As we can see in this thread alone, Jon R. is actually pretty common, so that's not any more descriptive than Rawman. I've been known as Rawman for many years, both online and in off. In my previous National Guard unit, everyone knew me by Rawman. I bet 1/2 of them didn't even know my real 1st name, and I didn't mind a bit. Is this a good enough compromise?
Rawman the Expobarbarian.. AKA the Original Jon R.
are you implying that i'm not the "harry manback?"
handles on the internet are a long-standing tradition -- so i'm sticking with mine. it's fun, and it hints to the community what else may be going on under the surface (eg, "message from harry manback" is a tool song). i feel lucky that i get to experience good coffee daily, but i think it's important we don't take ourselves too seriously. i also think it nice when we can (even subtly) let the other aspects of our personas bleed in.

I agree entirely. It's kind of boring to read a forum where everyone uses their real name. It may well be useful to force transparency and authentication in certain settings, but for the most part handles are popular for good reason.

This is great for me to break out of an old and bad habit. Perhaps this also means that I am also admitting that I have a new replacement, but it's not a problem because it's something that I can share with my family, and co-workers, and can spread in a way that I am not ever ashamed of. My old psudonym was olph. This was from my previous addiction, counter strike online gaming. I played with what I thought was folks who were generally younger than my age of 38, so in "leet" I called myself an old fart: Ølph4rt. This was before that I knew that at least half of the folks with whom I gamed were of the same age or older! This was a lot of fun, but started to become detrimental to my family's view of a normal life, so I quit cold turkey. So here I am: reformed over eater, reformed online gaming junky, reformed smoker (~3 years), but allowed to enjoy and persue with reasonable passion still one thing: Coffee. Why? Because I can share, and everyone enjoy's it. So before every "handle" dissappears, and we all become sane and real, (haha), I wanted to thank these online entities that are going to not exist, or have gone: Craig, Dana, Jasonian, Beezer, MrGnomer, Treshel, Fifthgen, CoffeeRoastersClub, DonTMan, Philosopher, JR, JonR10, SpressoBean, IMAWriter, Mark08859, Frcn, XDaveZ, Psyd, Atgcrypt, and whoever else who has helped me want to become a real man! Oh ya, and naturally the CoffeeKid!
So here I am olph Alan D, from Milton, Ontario near Toronto, eh!

This website has become much more than an internet only site. It has always been awkward to introduce myself to real people I meet from here as "SMT". Although it gave my wife plenty of reason to make fun of me!

You can also change it back if you want, & as was suggested., put your real name in you sig tag. The way you have __/\|_/\|\|__ there is cool, I love that! {;-)
