This makes good sense to me. My profile page has always had my full name and I'll add that to my sig as well. I'm known as JonR10 in more than one place, it's been my online name for over a decade. :-)

Correction: Thumbs up to CraigA for finding a grey area, and Tim for reiterating it so that Jon could use his "cute" JonR10 name again.
"Posted by MarkPrince on Thu Feb 21, 2008, 5:39pm ...snip... I do get the "cute" aspects of having a handle or nickname, so I didn't want to do away with it, but I guess now that I'm nearing 40, "CoffeeKid", which worked so well in 1997 when I was the young pup of alt.coffee, just doesn't seem so fitting any longer. ;)"

What gray area? It’s all in Mark's original post...

What I ask all active members (and new signups) to do though is to consider the following
- change your username to your real name (as I have done recently, going from "coffeekid" to "MarkPrince". You can do the same by simply editing your user profile and changing your username.
- if you don't want to change your username, please consider putting your real name (even just your first name, and city, leaving out your last name if you prefer) in your signature file. This can be edited when you click the "settings" button on almost every forums page when you log in
- at the very least, I request that you use your real name on your profile page. This has the least amount of privacy and security concerns, because profile pages are not indexed by search engines - we purposely block those from searches. I'm hoping those with privacy concerns will at least consider this option.
I don't see what all the fuss is about, Mark gives several options and while true changing your username is the most drastic, it isn't the only one offered (again by Mark himself). Note the if you don't want to change your username in the second bullet point then the at the very least in the third bullet point. :)
