Hiya folks. I've gotten some concerned emails from a few site members noting my lack of participation on the website (read: no new content, few forum posts) for the past month or so, so here's a small update about the supposed Senior Editor of the website for y'all.
September and October are traditionally the busiest months for me, travel-wise, with the exception of April and May. Two weekends ago, I was in Portland for NASCORE (photos and articles in the works), and this past weekend, incl. today, I am in Seattle for the SCAA Fall Committee Meetings. And it all rounds out with CoffeeFest the second weekend in October.
On top of that, I moved at the end of August to new digs, and that was extreme hecticness - pretty much most of August was shot for me, as well as September to this point. I'm still sitting within a sea of boxes and unassembled furniture at the new digs.
SCAA was interesting. I was a committee member for the Consumer Marketing Committee (of which Fortune Elkins is also a member), but I jumped ship this weekend - I'm now a candidate member for the USBC Committee, which is where I think my energies and skills (not to mention passion) will be better focused. I also had heaps of meetings this weekend with Insturator about the forthcoming changes to the Canadian Barista Championship, and the WBC as a whole.
Portland was also interesting - I was a judge in the PNW Barista Championship (congrats Kyle! and Mark! and Cassie!) and had fun in Portland - lots of news on that forthcoming.
Also, two reviews are in the bag, ready to "go live" on the site - but need photos. That's where I haven't had the time, to do post processing to the standards I've set for myself on the website. They are coming soon.
Also, this fall sees some exciting additions and changes to the CG site. I've been in talks with CoffeeCorps and Transfair to regenerize the Ethical Bean column, and also in talks with the Barista Guild to take over the "Barista" column for regular articles. It's a matter of coordination. I've been incredibly weak on getting content out the door, but a variety of challenges over the past six months have been... uh, my challenge, and I'll overcome those very soon, and get a lot of front page content rolling again.
Anyway, I'm around, and stay tuned for some exciting things on CG, outside of the forums :)
