I've had some bad luck lately with my beans. This is mostly when i buy from small local cafes that sell beans from local roasters. On more than one occasion the beans have not been fresh inspite of what the cafe owners say. So I'm looking to order direct/courier. I just ordered from Jungle Coffee (Congo blend) sounds nice and am a first time buyer so hoping they are a good option. I'm looking for roasters who are pedantic about sending out fresh high quality beans..

I've been around a stackload of companies for ordering beans - L'affare, Atomic, Ozone, Emporio, Mojo, Supreme, Fusion... I used to stick with L'affare and Atomic. More so Atomic once L'affare started putting their beans in foil - made it seem like they were extending the shelf life. Atomic was consistent, fresh, and a sentimental favourite for me. However several months back they changed to a crappy ordering system and hiked their prices, since then I've stuck almost exclusively with Havana, specifically the cuban beans. They are fantastic. Ordering is simple - they just keep my credit card number on record down there (gave it to them once over the phone), so all I do is fill out a simple webform (http://invoke.actrix.co.nz/havana/form.php) before 10am and the next day the coffee is on my doorstep. I don't need to have my credit card handy or remember the number. No logging in required either. As I said, Atomic used to be good - could just call 0800 ATOMIC, quote a 4 digit pin and place and order, however the system now is more cumbersome.
Check out the list on the NZ Coffee Roasters Association website if you want to work through a list of suppliers. As I say, I've tried a few, but just love the quality, consistency, flavour and personality of the Havana product. Interesting aside, I find that I need to grind the Havana beans more finely than with most of the others I've used. Anyway, to sum up, give www.havana.co.nz]Havana a shot.

Atomic - Celcius - Wildcat and Zekes, all have roast dates stamped on their bags, and several others too. If the company you order off does not date stamp their bags then there is only one reason for that in my opinion. The 4 companies I have listed all have award winning blends, Wildcat Blend is my personal favourite as it not only makes a top quality espresso, it also has enough push for milk based drinks too. I agree ordering can be a pain, most they seem to be accomodating regular orders, without having to fill out pages of the same info each time.
