Had a bad coffee experience at Rotorua airport once again :-(
Longblack served over-extracted and way too hot and not a sign of crema. Not very nice.

Great location David, so are you now running both shops including the one in Axis building? Just asking since I had a coffee there at your old location today and all seemed business as usual to me :)

cheers

Like I said ^_^ We have moved to Epsom store permanently.
The Parnell store has been sold.
We really need to focus on our second business, that is why we sold the Axis one.

I was in New Zealand a couple of summers back for Christmas and I was hot on the look out for a good coffee.  I had quite a few places to suss out from the north and south.

But C1 Espresso in Christchurch was by far the stand out and still to this day happily the best coffee I had in New Zealand.  It made my day when I ordered a flat white but went up to change it to a double ristretto flat white and they told me they always use DRs!  It was very pleasant, sweet and smooth.  My girlfriend thought it could have been the best coffee she had ever had!  I then had a double ristretto which was very yummy.  The DR was more of a stand-out to me then the FW.  It is still a memorable coffee experience, not to mention a sweet vibe with their own radio studio in the cafe and cool arty features. (and they don't have skinny/trim milk which is GREAT!)

C1 Espresso is at 150 High St, (the big weird diagonal street!) When in Christchurch it is a MUST.

Although...I was generally impressed with some basic standards in NZ.  I found that pretty much most places I went you could ask for a flat white and it would have froth on top.  (In Australia you would often/normally get no froth) Also, even if the coffee was average, there was a good standard of technique, especially dosing and tamping.  In Aus the technique is often "two clicks" of the doser and a "tamp" attached to the front of the grinder!

Most of NZ baristi use proper tampers, like the ones (steel piston, wooden handle) our Aussie mates keep reffering to as "that NZ thing" - LOL!

In general the coffe preparation and making standards in NZ are at the top of the scale, I must admit.

Yes, I was impressed to see mostly proper tampers around!
