Hi,
New to the site and wondering if someone could help?
I am really interested in barista competitions however i have never competed before, although I work full time in the industry. Just wondering where I could find out more information regarding dates for next years competition as I am hoping to enter.
Thanks alot.

www.aasca.com

be sure to read (and re-read the rules thoroughly) which can be found at http://www.worldbaristachampionship.com/ and if possible try and talk to as many previous competitors as possible.  Also, in case you haven't seen them already, check out Click Here (www.ustream.tv) for videos of this years WBC competitors.

Wish you all the very best of luck!!

Hi AZ,

Im guessing your Box Hill, Melbourne right? The best place to keep an eye out for comps is AASCA as mentioned. AASCA run regional (in some states), state and national barista/latte art/cupping competitions which act as a pathway towards the world titles, but don't let that freak you out because they are great stepping stones in getting started in comps. As the 08 comps (both state and nationals) have recently passed, the 09 comps will be a good few months away at least. Though this is good time to familiarise yourself with the format and rules of a competition. Competitions are usually posted up on CG as well, so keep your eyes peeled here for any comp info.

The rules for 2009 will be radically different to what they were for 2008.
The new rules will be released on the WBC website sometime in August.
The machine and grinder sponsorship contracts are also due to be announced.

I also hear the State based compettitons will all be held before Christmas this year, If possible to allow more time for the winners to prepare for the Australian Final and then for the Australian winner to have more time before WBC which is early this year (April 15-19 in Atlanta, Georgia)

At this stage start practising dosing and tamping and pulling two handles at a time with consistent shot times.

If you want to learn a bit more feel free to drop by and visit me or one of the other barista's on a sat morning.

Till then, Practice hard

Dave.

Hi all,
thank you for the information, that doesn't leave much time!
I thought being the 2009 competition I would have more time to get ready.

The AASCA Committee is currently working on the dates and logistics for the 2009 Comp.

The new rules will not be announced until 29 August 2008.

I believe that the equipment sponsors will also be announced at the same time.

The 2009 WBC is on around 16 April 2009.

The Australian Comps need to be completed by 25 February 2009.

With Christmas and holidays, it is expected that many of the state comps will be held prior to Christmas.
