You will get more enjoyment out of the control that the GB5 offers. If you decide you need to increase the brew boiler needs to be adjusted a degree or two, then you will be able to achieve this with a couple of digital adjustments. Double boiler machines are the ultimate for temperature control.
If you plan on having a strong presence on the competition circuit, and don't have readily availably access to an Aurelia then that's somehting worth looking at. But for tweakability, flavour in the cup and sheer sex appeal I'd favour the lmz
Just wanted to see how strong the reactions would be! Am definitely going ahead with the LM, although I'm sure many more Aurelia's will be popping up soon...
Let me first say that i am a La Marzocco supporter and i wouldnt be using anything else if i had the option and havent been on much else other than a marzocco in the last 5 years.
BUT.
Re: the flavour in the cup bit, its a common experience that "espresso" is more exciting or brighter or lets just say more flavourful "at times" from a "good" single boiler machine.
...its also a common thought that LM espresso is flat, even though i havent read Inni's book i believe he speaks about this in it or rather he speaks about water temp affecting the flavour transition into the cup and that a swing in temp will bring out more or some-such, i have on many occaisions spoken about this with him whilst under his employment, and i believe many other industry types may have the same experience...
ALL THAT SAID
LM offers far superior consistency, from its water temp, and apart from that, the feedback a barista gains from dosing on a LM is far superior to any other machine i have used before.
I'm actually a much bigger fan of curved temp profiles vs flat line. My comment stems from trying two SO and one blend through both the aurelia and an fb80. And all three tasted beter (to me) through the FB80. Granted it's no scientific study, just what I observed. And for what it's worth I love synesso ;p

Well I have to say that I am a huge fan of La Marzooco and was sad to see them loose the WBC rights.
We have several La Marzooco's in our roastery and cafes we supply, and we will continue to sell and be huge fans of the equipment and the people at La Marzocco Italy.
Having said that if you want to compete you have to train on the machine that they use at the competition. So Veneziano has ordered two Aurelia machines so we can train barista's for this years competition.
Looking forward to tasting shots from both in the near future.
