As I am starting in the espresso world, I am looking to find a good local source for great Italian coffee beans that are well-priced for what you are getting.  Having tasted and liked Lavazza coffees (Top Class and Pienaroma) I am particularly interested in finding a source for them.  I know that Milano's in Montreal sells them for about 20 - 25 per kilo, but I was wondering if anybody knows any Toronto sources like this.  Any other local suggestions to try would be great.  Thanks for your help,

Mike

Sorry Mike but that Italian coffee that you are talking about is stale by the time it gets here, and at any price is not good.

If you want good, then try a local roaster (Dark City et al) or roast your own. Not that hard, just get a popcorn popper with at least 1200 watts and buy some green beans. You will not be disappointed.

I am a firm believer that beans roasted in Italy and vacuum packed are better than any local roast.
Coffee in a regular bag or burlap sac starts getting old and tired as soon as it comes out of the roaster.

The Italian coffee roasters ship world wide and are famous for the taste.

Lavazza has two types of beans. Retail Grocery and Food Service.

Retail Grocery is not for you.

Food Service Lavazza is.  The price per Kilo is from 18 to 28 dollars.

email me and I'll give you the particulars.

If you want to try the supermarket type go to Grande Cheese for best prices and check the expiry date.

Grocery Retail is Sea Freight  and Food Service is air freight.

Good local roast with plenty of good quality arabica beans are a rarity in Canada.

You're saying coffee that's possibly months old is better than everything produced locally? Wow, that's quite a claim.

If nothing local is good surely you could get mail-order roasted coffee from the US? I doubt it'd take more than a couple of days at the outside.

Coffee in a regular bag or burlap sac starts getting old and tired as soon as it comes out of the roaster.

And Italian roasters have managed to find a way to alter physics inside their coffee bags so their coffee doesn't stale?

Coffee shipped in a container & taking 3 months to get here certainly IS NOT fresh! Sorry, I see you said: "Grocery Retail is Sea Freight and Food Service is air freight." So the Air freight would arrive in what time frame?, thanks.

There are more than a few Artisan coffee roasters in Toronto that can produce a superior product!

The Italian coffee roasters ship world wide and are famous for the taste. Lavazza has two types of beans. Retail Grocery and Food Service.

The Lavazza shots I had with a friend at the Faema Cafe were terribly stale, & had no more than a mm or two of crema! Total crap..

Good local roast with plenty of good quality arabica beans are a rarity in Canada.

That's completely false!!, what total B.S! Have you even checked out any Toronto area roasters for starters?? {:-/
