I'm heading to Halifax on the 30th for about 2 weeks. While I'm really looking forward to spending time there with my wife's family, I'm not so sure how we will cope without our daily espresso/latte fix.
Two whole weeks without the Lyra!! Sure we've gone a day or two without her before, but two whole weeks!?
In any case, if any of you know of any good places to get a good espresso in Halifax, please, please, please let me know!!

Hahah - my poor fellow WWDP brother - all I can say is "good luck"! I am originally from the Maritimes, and I go back every couple of years to visit friends and family. I have never had a decent espresso there. You may luck out and find a small cafe that might know what they are doing, but don't hold your breath. Whenever I travel I bring my trusty french press and my cheapo work grinder. It is really too bad, as most Maritimers are addicted to caffeine. However their fix comes from the many many many Tim Hortons shops you will see on every street corner in every city you will visit.
I am headed back east this July, and I will probably spend at least a few days in Half-a-lax, so if you do luck out, please let me know.

Justin - did you ever find a cafe that could pull a decent shot in Halifax?
I am off to the Maritimes in about a month and I am starting to panic. I love french press coffee, but two weeks without espresso (let me clarify - good espresso) seems like cruel and unusal punishment.
I will be spending most of my visit in Moncton, so if there are any fellow geeks in NB willing to help a brother out, I would be in your debt. Surely to god there is an espresso machine somewhere in the Maritimes....

Although I hav not tried them, a friend of mine gets his beans from Java Blend on North Street in Halifax.
I can't comment on their espresso because I have NEVER had it. However, I spoke with the roaster last week and he roasts every day there. It's probably your best bet in Halifax.
Just in case somebody is using the search and finds this buried in the archives, I'd hate for them to think there are no places to find a decent espresso in Halifax... (rest of the maritimes is iffy...)
But for Halifax: Steve-o-reno's on Brunswick is THE place; also check out Java Blend on North St.; and Smiling Goat on South Park St.. It's been too long since my last visit for me to comment on Trident Cafe on Hollis. But, that should keep you happy for a while.
If your at the farmer's market I bring my GS/3 down every week working out of the Java Blend booth. Sorta sub-contracting for my espresso bar catering business kafaespressobar.com,
That's good to know as I go to the market almost every saturday I'm in town... plus, I can finally see a GS/3 up close... Do you use porcelain cups in the market ? I am not a fan of paper cups for espresso.
