I wish I could use porcelain, but it's not possible or legal since their is no dishwasher. If you want to bring your own cup I would be more than happy to brew into it :)

oh wow! a GS/3 in halifax! I might have to come down with my own cup on saturday! this is a rough rough city for someone who loves espresso. nice website, this is good to know!
as a minimum there are 3 places to check out in Halifax that make excellent espresso
1) Steve-o-reno's on Brunswick (Farmer's market is OK, but the Brunswick shop is better Saturday morning) Zane, the manager, is a master barista ! Yet, the cafe is very consistent amongst the other baristi. 2) Java Blend on North St. especially with Jim pulling the shot ! 3) Smiling Goat on South Park.
We are also fortunate to have a great local microroaster -- Java Blend, which has some great Single-origin coffees, Fair trade organic and Cups of Excellence coffees and a wonderful house espresso blend. Some of his single-origin coffees have made excellent espresso as well. (e.g. Ethiopia Yergacheffe)
The one thing I miss in this city, is finding 49th Parallel or Intelligentsia beans in the city.
By the way, Peter's stand is upstairs in the market at the Java Blend booth which is near Hutton Farm stand. You go up the stairs from the main atrium, past the Steve-o-reno's stand, past the Mike's Fish stand, and through the hall, past Hutton Farm and way in the far end is a small booth.

Steve-o-reno's indeed. I just discovered the place. They know what they're doing.

OK, so one more IMPORTANT cafe to add to the short list of coffee bars worth visiting in Halifax.
Two If By Sea Cafe, 66 Octerloney, Dartmouth, NS. Zane Kelsall, formerly of Caffe Artigiano (trained by four time CNBC champ Sammy Piccolo) and ex-manager of Steve-o-Reno's Brunswick cafe in Halifax, has just opened his own cafe with Tara MacDonald self-taught pastry chef formerly working at the Dartmouth Farmer's Market.
This coffee place is the real thing. A hip cafe that could easily fit in places like Vancouver, San Francisco, Portland, Montreal and Toronto. Worth crossing the bridge or taking the Ferry from Halifax to downtown Dartmouth.
Coffee choices include espresso based drinks produced on their 3 group Mirage, brewed coffee with french press and Abid pour-over choices. At least one single origin coffee to pick from for the brewed coffee. Perhaps Eva Solo or siphons to come in the future. 49th Parallel Coffee is featured and they sell some bags at the cafe. Abid coffee dripers will be available for sale next week I'm told.
