So... After selling sub-standard coffee for a few months, now you're telling us everything is great again, and that yours is the greatest coffee in Montreal???

How about telling us upfront, or when we're actually buying coffee at your place?
Or better yet - don't sell sub-standard coffee at all!

How do I know, next time I'm thinking about buying coffee from you, that your machine isn't on the fritz again (since that didn't keep you from selling your bad stuff the last time it happened)?

Hi Stephan,

glad you responded.

The thing that bothers me is, as Frescard said, that you guys actually knew that the roast was off,
and you kept selling it.

Maybe nobody actually told you guys that it was off....

Anyways, you still have a few good blends but the thing is, it's getting stiff competition from the folks down south.

At least taste their coffee.

You'll probably find something interesting.

Gimme has fantastic coffees and it's my new standard for coffee.

Sometimes, too many years as a leader tends to blur perception.... you'll have to work a little harder from now on!

Thanks for mentioning the problem's solved.

My name is Stephan and I am the owner of Cafe Union.  I thank you for your postings and enjoy reading what you have to say, good or bad.  We strive to have the best coffee in the city and take pride in serving the highest quality beans available.  Over the last couple of months, we have had many problems with our roasting equipment leaving us with coffee that was not up to our standards nor yours.  Measures were taken to improve our system, and I can tell you that there is a huge difference in our product.  Back are the days of full bodied, thick crema and aroma that is out of this world.
Why spend crazy amounts of money for imported espresso when the best is in your back yard!  We serve the best espresso bars in the city and take great pride in serving you the best espresso at home...

Drop by our place, ask for me, Stephan as I love to get your feedback and find the exact espresso each individual is looking for.

Regards,

Stephan

Hi,
To clarify, We did not know that our problems came from the roaster.  We truly felt it was certain coffees that were giving us problems.  When we did realize that it was the roaster, we took immediate action to fix the problem.  We like to get feedback from our customers, retail and wholesale, because what one person may like as a taste, someone else might not.. When nobody says anything, sometimes as a individual, you question yourself.  When people communicate, and say "the coffee is not like it was" then we realize that we have get to the root of the problem.  Reading your posts were very interesting, but had I known in May that it was actually my roaster giving me problems do you really believe I  would have let things go on for a prolonged period?  We are a family run business who deepend on our good coffee, great quality and personalized service to suceed, which was one reason I made the post, and secondly to let you espresso fans out there know that once we got to the root of the problem we took care of it and that we are proud to offer excellent coffee that people love to come back and get.

We have certain blends of coffee that do contain robusta beans.  Just one note, there are robusta coffees that are great, wonderful coffees like there are some that are not so good...It is the same with Arabica coffees, you have great arabicas, but you can get some that are just awful, so we have to be careful when we use any type of bean to get the best coffee available.

Thanks,
Stephan

Just tasted the Italia blend...

It's better. Definitely.

Still doesn't match other "imports" though....

Thank you,
Next time try 3/4 Italia, 1/4 Special Bar, it keeps the aroma and flavour of the Italia and adds some body to it.  Ask for me next time, it will be my pleasure to serve you and I will let you try it before you leave our store just to make sure...

Hey RichardTempura!

Did you tried the Bahia blend from Cafe Rico?
http://www.caferico.qc.ca/pagesweb/produits.htm

It's my favorite blend in town, they roast daily,
fresh beans,100% Arabica, organic and fair trade!

beat that!

Caferico is very  good, we need more of these.
Different than Terracaf, but the batch I  tried just as good in terms of quality.

Stephan,
Happy to see cafe-union realized his coffee was not up to par and is doing something about it. I will be more than happy to give it a try, one more source of good coffee in MTL is good news.
By the way, how often do you roast Italia and special Bar?  or in fact if I buy them at the store do I get 2 days, 5 days coffee or more. No offense meant but my biggest issue from the 4 or 5 times I tried your coffee was not the quality of the roast but the fact it usually had a few days.
If the approach to business has changed I will be happy to support you. All this meant in a really constructive way. Looking forward to your feedback.
Thanks, Pat

Hi,
To answer your question, with the turn around in coffees and the lack of space that we have, our coffees sold at our store usually are between 1 to 3 days old.  (sometimes too fresh in my opinion) ..If you purchase our coffee at different locations around the city, then it will more than usual be a little older because of the lack of turnover.  Should you be looking for coffees that are really fresh, at our store, ask the person serving you to get the coffee from the back roasting area, that will insure total freshness.

Regards,

Stephan
