Well I suppose since I'm naming a few places, I wouldn't be committing a crime...
So, in no particular order, here goes, and I'm trying to get a list of places where you all go for good espresso.. Recommendations... I'm not aiming at any ranking, just where you would go for a nice fruity shot of espresso without having to walk more than 3-4 blocks.. like George Costanza and his enyclopedia of clean bathrooms in NYC :-)
Cafe Veritas in old Montreal (St-Laurent / Notre-Dame) Caffe en Gamba in the Mile-End (du Parc / Fairmount) Cafe Artjava in the Plateau (Mont-Royal / St-Hubert) and I stumbled upon a place yesterday on Notre-Dame just east of Atwater while scouring the city for a snow shovel, which is what inspired me to sign up and start this thread...

There is a little cafe on the same street that the National Gallery is on between St Catherines and Sherbrooke. I don't remember the name, but it is on the opposite side of the street from Thursday's, the next block closer to the gallery, and it is on the first floor. All I had was a cappuccino there, but it was an excellent cap!

I've had a great espresso two days ago. It was at Segafredo Zanetti located at 966 Ste Catherine West. That is right downtown. Very trendy place so I didn't know what to expect but, it was very, very, good.

Lucky you. I had one there, the barista used grounds that were already in the doser, tamped using the built in tamper, and gave me a shot that was way too hot and burned!

Its good to know where to go.. let's hear it!
I had a chance to check out Cafe Veritas while at a conference around the corner at Palais de Congress. Very intrigued that they feature 49th Parallel Coffee Roaster. Unfortunately their Barista only works from 9:00 to 15:00, and I was tied up in my meetings during that time.
The staff member on duty at 07:30 warned me that she was not trained on the espresso machines but she did make a decent pot of drip (I think it was Epic).

Epic is only used for espresso, and is never used for filtered coffee. There's always a fully trained barista by 8AM, and usually earlier. Just wanted to clear that up, glad you enjoyed the coffee. --Anthony

Anthony, are you at Cafe Veritas now? I'm going to be in town tomorrow (Sun), is Veritas still closed on Sun? Cafe Art Java on Kennedy is around the corner from where I'm staying.
