I went to Bridgehead on Elgin/Maclaren and they have been running a Synesso for about a month now. I was very excited to see that.
The Barista told me that all Bridgeheads should get their's eventually.
That is very good news.
Any more details that the BH people would like to share ;-) ??
I'm not sure if they will be getting more Clovers though, since it went over to Starbucks ;-(
I did get a shot from the Synesso (Elgin) and it was Ok, I think the shots on the Dalhousie location are better ( I think they use a custom blend over there). It was better than on the FrankeFranke, but I think it can be way better than that.
I don't know, the cup to hold the single shot seemed too large (only less than 1/3 full) and the shot was not hot enough (maybe because of the bigger cup). It may just be personal taste, but I like smaller cups, like the Illy espresso cups kind a thing.
Any ways, I think it's great for the Ottawa coffee community to see those Synessos popping out all over the place, and I'm sure it must take a little bit of time/training to get the best out of them.
Just thought I'd share this information/experience/opinion ;-) And maybe get some opinions back for other members, or info from the Bridgehead people ;-)

Hey Pascal - hopefully those enormous espresso cups will go very soon. They are a remnent of the 4oz double that the superautos put out, and they do tend to dwarf proper espressos.
We actually haven't used that "custom" blend for quite some time, every shop is using the same espresso blend and I'm proud to say we've arranged to keep it between 3-9 days off roast under typical rotation. Thanks for the feedback/report on shot quality, as you know espresso is a slippery pursuit so I'm glad it was "ok" =) They are good folk at that shop and I think we can expect great things from them as the summer progresses!

Yeah my plan is to try this location next with my wife and maybe say my congradulations to Laura for her first place at the regionals Don't know when she works though..... Pascal
Just got back eating lunch from there, I finished up my meal with an amazing double shot!!!
The crema was so thick, it was the same kind of feeling for the lips as when you drink a cappa and the first sip is only frothed milk, except its crema. (I need to work on my poet skills)
It was so far, for me, the best shot I had in Ottawa, and I made a point of telling the barista how good it was!!!

Neat™ Coffee Shop in Burnstown (about an hour outside of Ottawa) is running a La Marzocco Mistral, 49th Parallel coffee (soon to be air roasting their own as well on a Sivitz). Brewed options include French Press and Clover. No drip. :o)
The crew was trained by yours truly. If you find yourself on a day trip out in their neck of the woods, make sure you drop by!

Funny you talk about the Mistral, I found out this morning that the Bridgehead on Bank Street (downtown at the corner of Albert) has one of those La Marzocco Mistral running, replacing the Franke Franke super auto.
Beautiful machine, you have to see it in real.... and produces some tasty shots (just tried an americano for now but will be back to try a single shot)
Finally the downtown area has a serious machine ;-)

Haha.....not what I meant ;-)
I just meant that the "core" downtown area (walking distance from work) did not have any serious machine before (at least not that I was aware of), you would have to walk quite a bit during your brake to go get a good coffee ;-) Closest one being Elgin at MacLaren I beleive.
Synesso rules!! and the Mistral seems to be quite capable too! ;-)
