Posted Wed Nov 13, 2002, 10:36pm Subject: US vendor offers free expedited shipping to Canada!
This evening, I got an email from John (a lurker in these forums - jump in John!) from Toronto who told me that he ordered an Isomac Tea from Chris Coffee Service in the US, and Chris shipped it to him Expedited, 2 day post, and picked up the shipping AND brokerage fees! John only had to pay duties and sales taxes.
I wasn't sure if it was one of Chris' occasional "one off" deals, so I called him, and sure enough, in his subtle way (heh heh heh - those who know Chris know he isn't exactly a subtle guy on the phone) he decided to now pay expedited UPS shipping and the brokerage on all Canadian orders over a fixed dollar amount (I didn't get that info, but I would guess it would be for anything from a Mazzer Mini price on up). I also got the impression he's doing that mainly because I'm a Canadian, and have constantly moaned to him about the woes of UPS and Fed Ex ground shipments to Canada costing a fortune, and having $30 to $50 in brokerage fees tacked on.
Anyway, I'm posting this as FYI. Chris didn't ask me to, but it's DAMNED NICE of him to offer this service for us poor Canucks, victims of the Northern Peso...
So here's an unsolicited plug for a business that is doing something "nice" just for us Canucks: www.chriscoffee.com - but you'll have to give him a call. My company designed his website's back end software, and the order forms in the shopping system don't take orders for people outside the US - but Chris will, if you call and do a phone order.

Excellent news to here Mark. {:-D I'm on Chris's email list & the price deal on a Mini a while back was excellent (the email customer deal & minus the case of Illy). With this super offer this will probably be that extra incentive for me to order one, as I was pretty well tapped out money wise. As always, Cheers Mark!

Thanks for the advice, Mark.
The duties and brokerage fees paid UPS shipped orders into Canada is what's keeping me from ordering from the States. If Chris' coffee is going to help us out, he's definitely going to get my business.
I'm actually even thinking of making a trip in the next year of so down into the States to pick up a machine when it comes time for an upgrade. You know what someone has to go through to bring a machine personally into Canada from the States? I read somewhere that espresso machines have some sort of exemption. You know about that?

Hi Kirk, Chris did a "Canuck Special" for me when I & a former CG friend bought our Mazzer Mini's from him on May 16th 2003. Email me for details. I'll exchange phone #'s with you & tell you the deal & how it worked. {;-)

Hey Kirk, yep., that'd be me. {;-) You have to take out the "deletethis." part, that's a spam trap to stop/cut down on receiving spam from spam harvesting bots that harvest an "unmunged" or "doctored" email address.

I received a Macap M4 stepless from Chris' Coffee about 3 weeks ago. Mark P's information at the top of this thread is out-of-date. However, Chris' Coffee will pay the portion of shipping that equals the furthest US distance they ship to (California). You cover the remaining cost. That meant $55 shipping to me in Toronto, but it was at least air shipped, so brokerage was included, and I received the grinder the following day!
I haven't contacted Chris' Coffee yet. The upgrade is on hold at the moment and I'm looking at other machines than the ones Chris offers so I may make a deal with another supplier.
Still, knowing that Chris cares about shipping to Canada puts him on the top of my list of vendors I want to buy from. I'll definitely keep y'all posted one way or another.

I am going to try Chris and see what deal he can do on the Baratza... his price is 199 Baratza sells refurbs for 149, but may not ship to Canada, OR it will be costly... I will see who sets me up the best with being a Canuck!
I don't mind a refurb, $50 is $50! But it may cost more than that for Baratza to ship, so Chris may win afterall!! I will update soon.
