I have been looking for a local source of fresh roast beans and had tried some Peruvian beans and some Ethiopian yirgacheffe from them last week. The yirgacheffe was particularly good.
I had the pleasure of talking to the owner this morning when I went in to pick up some beans. He's been in the coffee business for a very long time and seemed quite knowledgeable. I was not sure about this company partly because they do not put roast dates on their beans. but after the conversation, I'm confident I'll be able to find out roast dates from him and will have access to fresh roast any time.
I picked up some Kenya AA and Thailand peaberry today. I hope I like the current selection and these guys turn out to be a good local source.

I too was disappointed that they had no roast dates on their bags, but I was assured that all the coffee on their shelf was roasted in the last week. I was told if anything is going to get older than that it is used in their commercial shipments.
They have some very nice beans. Their Kenya AA is my favourite so far. I've had some excellent Yirgacheffe from another Kitchener roaster but definitely want to try Baden's as soon as I use up some of the beans in my freezer.

Did my 3rd trip there a couple of days ago. While they do not put roast dates on the retail bags, you can ask for the roast date for any bean you choose. It is on the storage bags they portion from.
The Kenya AA was good. I'm trying an Indian Monsoon now. Not bad, but a little dark for me.
