Ok well I've been able to do half decent rosettas for a while but I just got my digital camera and wanted to show one off.  I made a few good ones today but I had to format my memory card!  Grrr.  So here's a decent one I did later in the day.

Alright, Clark!

Ottawa looks like a nice place to visit.

I can vouch for Ian here, I've been there and seen what he can do. It's the only place in town I dare go when I want a latte. I just don't know how I'm going to get my fix once he goes back to school ;)

Now Ian, if you can convince them to go from the Illy to something a little fresher you'd be set!

Haha thanks Jamie.  Don't worry I'll still be working on Saturdays and Sundays when school comes around.

I'm working on it!  I hope the Black Cat sampling goes well on Friday.  That would be cool to use, and probably cheaper than Illy.

Nice art.  I'd like to learn how to do that.  Are you ordering the Black Cat from the States?  I'm still searching for a good, reasonably priced blend that we can purchase in Ottawa.

So Friday is the day I guess... Are you going to be working there in the afternoon (ie. after I get off work)? I'd really like to come by and sample it as well....

Yeah ddmacd, my boss has a friend in Chicago who is coming here on friday.  I heard about this and inquried if this friend could drop by Intelligentsia and pick up some Black Cat for us to sample (as my boss has been considering a switch from Illy to something cheaper/fresher/equally high quality).      I'm not sure if it's going to be feasible to use Black Cat but it would be awesome if it were.  Using a coffee roasted last week instead of 4 months ago and shipped from Italy would definitly be a plus.  It's not that Illy is stale, it's just that the crema is really weak on it.  Mind you it's way better than the crema I've seen on any other espresso in town, but nowhere near as cool as the 1oz+ cremas I see in some photos.  As far as quality, fresh espressos from Ottawa I'm not sure if it's possible.  I've tried 2 of Francesco's espressos and one was not great, the other was aweful.  The only other Roastery I know is Kafia which I might try after the Black Cat.

Jamie - As far as I know Friday is the day.  I'll be working the afternoon, closing at 7:30.  Come on over after you finish work, I'll do my best to make sure there's some for you to try out.  Hopefully we'll get the pump on the Nuova Simonelli sorted out by then - it runs at 10 bars and has been like that forever.  Says a lot about the guy that services the machine eh?  I've finally got the management interested in getting this fixed by lowering it to the 8-9 bar range.

Ddmacd do you own a shop in Ottawa?  Or are you just looking for a nice espresso for home?  I'd like to know if there's another shop in Ottawa where the people have at least heard of Coffeegeek!  So far, out of all the shops I've been to, I've only been served one espresso where the crema actually covered the entire surface.

Clark,  I'm just looking for something good to use at home.  I've tried several coffees from Kafia.  I give most of them pretty high marks.  Their espresso blend, in my opinion, is only mediocre.  The roast is a bit darker than I like and the crema is not good.  The coffee I’ve been using lately is a Swiss blend by Blaser Café see Click Here (www.blaser-cafe.ch)  I got a 1 kilo bag from Morala on Bank Street when I bought my Silvia.  It’s one of those bags with a valve that they say keeps the beans fresh.  The crema is the best I’ve seen from my machine.

I tried a heart this morning.  I just don't know what I'm doing.

Let's try and keep this Eastern Canadian thread active.

Is latte art still available in Ottawa?  I'd love to see some in person :)

Of course it is =)

Only available on weekends at the moment I'm afraid.  I'm at school during the week and nobody else at work is making latte art just yet.

Come in to the coffee bar at Ottawa Bagelshop & Deli some time on the weekend.  I'm usually there Saturday mornings and Sunday afternoons.  If you see a tall guy with black hair behind that counter that's the new barista that might be more obsessed with coffee than I am.  He'll make a nice coffee but he's not doing latte art just yet.  If you see a younger blond haired chap, that's me.

It would be great to have more CG members coming in.
