Yep, tried it twice recently that is definitely a 1st class espresso place to try! :^)
I talked with Les about having cupping or pulling session for coffee entusiasts and Barista in greater Calgary area. As far as I know everything seems concentrated in both coast... I'm working on "sponsorship" (Roaster, machine dealers) to keep the fee low for us. Any help is greatly appreciated. :)
So what do you think? Any idea? I was thinking around late January or Feb. I'm not aware of any coffee related events that would drain the "pros" somewhere else. Let me know if I'm wrong Pro Baristas. Les is taking his Barista (can't remenber her name) to the next competition humm late winter early spring so we should plan it before that, good practice for her and any Barista involve in comp.

about freaking time we see some Calgary baristas at the competitions. Bumpy's says on their website that they're eager to sponsor baristas so let's hope this grows. Jay at Good Earth oughta give it a shot too...

Hello,
I am the Business Development Manager for both Copper Fish Media. and Specialty Beverage Solutions. I am sure that I could convince both companies to sponsor such an event. I think putting on an event like this could elevate "Calgary Coffee". Time for Calgary to catch up to the west - I believe demand is here.
I know Jay from Good Earth - he will be tough to beat.

Josh (Aussie guy), new head barista at Koi is pretty skilled too- and goodness me, that makes five places with art in Calgary- Java Jamboree, Bumpy's, Good Earth (UofC), Cafe Koi, and Purple Perk.

Hi guys! Looks like everyone got (are) sucked in "Christmas Craziness" Anyone is interested in the idea of "Barista event" in Calgary? I'm in 100% , I'm pretty flexible with spare time (in the winter) so don't hesitate to contact me. What do you think if we start with some kind of a "pulling Jam"? It could lead to a regional comp. next fall or winter. We could try to get as much pro-barista as we can and reps (we'll obviously gonna need espresso gear).
Let's begin by forming a team to brainstorm on the event shall we? ;-)

As a heads up, there's a new cafe in Canmore getting ready to open. They will have a 2 group Synesso and should be open before the end of the month (Dec 06). For those of you looking for staff or barista positions they may be hiring right now as well so keep your ears to the ground. The cafe is called "Communitea" and I believe they will be serving Intelligentcia coffee and specialty teas from around the world. They have a big focus on sustainability and ethical practices and are looking to create a real community space as well. They should be a welcome addition to the coffee and tea scene.

Yes I know Dasein, got my interview today! I know a little the manager (well I didn't know it was him before I called, nice surprise) and he is the kind of guy how like "to do the things the way it should be done" and specially coffee. I think we both share an big passion for coffee. Just for that it's gonna be an awesome place I think with a great "atmosphere".
We will see.
