This coming May 24th - 25th, Fratello & Espuccino will be hosting the first ever Prairie Regional Barista Competition. This is an event sanctioned by the Canadian Barista Academy and the 3 winners of the PRBC will go on to compete in the Canadian National Barista Championship with that winner representing all of us at the WBC

DATES:
Barista Jam: May 17th
Judges Certification Workshop: May 23rd
Competition Qualifying Rounds (16 competitors): May 24th 10:00am to 4:00pm
Finals & Award Presentation (8 competitors): May 25th 10:00am to 2:00pm

Baristas must compete in one of the 2008 Canadian Regional Championships in order qualify for entry into the Canadian National Championship. Baristas working in cafes, restaurants and foodservice establishments in each region are encouraged to sign up. One registrant per company (see rules and regulations). For rules, information and registration visit http://www.coffeeteashow.ca/barista_championship.html or www.canadianbaristaacademy.com or call: 416-784-5210. You can also find additional information as it becomes available on our websites: www.fratellocoffee.com and www.espuccino.com

We highly recommend that if you are interested in competing - that you sign up quickly as there is a maximum of 16 competitors. Please spread the word!!  The event is open to the public and admission is donated to the Coffee Kids charity

Also - they are in need to volunteers to be a competition Judge !!  This is a great way to get involved - please contact Les Kuan at ibex1989@yahoo.com to sign up.

Cheers

Jason

Worked fine for me Jason, I just uploaded it for you., to your post. I'll delete this here.. {;-)

P.S. I tested the pdf & it opened fine in my post & in your post Jason, a couple of hrs later it wouldn't open in either post. Opens fine from "My Documents" file with Adobe reader..I did copy your link to the pdf but lost it. I Googled & found the pdf link, so I reposted it back into your post.

Sorry, I thought I was helping... This appears to be a bug & is breaking the link during the upload/renaming for the post, it tries to open but says File does not begin with '%PDF-' GRRR.. Hmmm... {:-/

This is just another reminder to let everyone know that the general public is welcome to come watch this event.   It is the first for this area, and the local support would be greatly appreciated.

Go Joel Go!!!

Is there a schedule/list of competitors? Who's competing and which cafes do they represent? Looks like there will be live streaming video, anyone blogging the event? Good luck to everyone!

Subject: barista comp score breakdown?

It was cool watching the competition online.
Thanks for doing that!

Do the competitors get a breakdown of their scores?
E.g. how many points do they get for each drink etc?

cheers,
Geoff

Each of the 6 finalists gets to speak with the judges after the competition and they discuss how they did. The score sheets from the 6 judges will be mailed to each competitor (after the black out the judges names). This way they can review each area that they need to work on.

As for the online viewing - you're very welcome. We were averaging 30 to 54 online viewers and combined with 40 to 60 people watching live means that we had the largest viewership to ever watch a Canadian barista competition !!

Thank you to everyone who watched & participated - making this competition a huge success

Cheers
