I'll be making my first trip ever to Vancouver in mid April (Presenting at a conference).  Pretty Jazzed.  Figured I'd ask for some of the best coffee shops to check out near where I'll be.  Conference is at the convention center, pan pacific, and fairmont hotels (be prepared for 10,000 education researchers descending on you, Vancouver (nerd alert)!).  I'll be staying at the best western at 1100 granville.

Would love to find the best coffee shops that are accessible to those areas.  Know precisely nothing about the areas.  Any and all tips are appreciated.  Sorry if I've missed a similar thread elsewhere.

Oh, and extra credit for good eats...I find being a coffee fiend and foodie to be highly correlated.

Cheers,
Jeff

If you have time for a short trip (15min by transit)
W Broadway/W 4th area: 49th parallel, Ellysian, Wicked
Main St. Kafkas, JJ Bean
Commercial Dr. Continental, Prado, JJ Bean

if you are limited to downtown area
Artigiano, JJ Bean, Revolver

Good food & coffee under the same roof: Pour house in Gastown (Synesso/49th parallel)

Hope this helps,

Sasha

Elysian has poured me some of the best espresso I've ever had (and have a Clover!).  Artigianos can be quite good as well, but varies by location (I like the Park Royal location the best).  I haven't tried many others, but I'm sure the others recommended by Sashas are also good.

Jeff,

Since you'll be in the Downtown / Gastown core a majority of your day, here are my personal recommendations:

Revolver Coffee (my personal top pick!)
Cafe Artigiano
JJ Bean
The Salty Tongue Cafe / Irish Heather (They're right beside one another - They serve Stumptown Coffee here)

All of the above are within a short walk from each other if you are in Gastown - not very far from the Convention Centre/Pan Pacific/Fairmont Hotels.  I can't recommend one closer to your hotel other than having to cross the Granville Bridge on your own time.  If you do, check out Innocent Coffee and the Wicked Cafe as suggested by Sasha.  If you want to make the trek, try out Elysian Coffee (two locations.)

Sasha's list is quite comprehensive and gets my +1, especially Kafka's.  Enjoy!

Walk straight up Granville toward the convention centre - go one block over to Bel Cafe on Howe and Georgia.. Get coffee. Keep walking, eventually you'll need to walk one more block over.

Musette will also likely be open here in a couple weeks. It's a couple blocks from your hotel.

Thanks for the tips, folks.  And thanks in advance to any future ones that roll in.
