Is there anyone in the Calgary area who is a hardcore coffee geek who would like to share some coffee or tea knowledge over a cup of espresso?
I used to hang out in the Roasterie as well as Central Blends Coffee growing up back in the 1990's. I live up in Country Hills now, not as many "real" coffee shops there as Kensington and Sunnyside. :-(

There is really only one "real" cafe in Kensington: The House. Red Bush is getting there. The rest, including and especially Higher Ground, are horrible.

Are there any other cafes you can recommend in Calgary worth trying out?
I've been meaning to try out the Phil and Sebastians at Chinook Mall.
I think Fratellos is pretty good, but maybe my taste buds were playing a trick on me. I'm used to espresso having a slightly bitter taste, theirs was sour in comparison.. (At least IMHO!!!) They have a Slayer there, so I seriously doubt that it wasn't brewing at the right temperature or that they under-extracted the coffee. The baristas looked really skilled, so perhaps they served me an espresso the way it was meant to be served and I've just been drinking the screwed up version all this time. :-)
I've been served espressos from Superautos that I simply cannot stand. They're like this horrid mess of a drink, horrendously bitter, nearly undrinkable... So, naturally, I think that getting a toned down version of bitterness is better.. Not that it should be absent.
If there's anything which my Silvia is teaching me is the wide gamut of flavors I can get out of the same beans, the same grind, the same dose and the same tamp.
