So I've been home roasting for about a month now and I'm looking to replenish my stock of beans in a week or two. I live in Regina, Sask and there is only a handful of places that roast their own coffee and none seem very willing to sell me green beans. My last batch I got from Greenbeanery but they charge for shipping, works out to about $2.00/lbs for shipping cost.

I have no qualms ordering from them again but I was wondering if there was any other place that someone would recommend that may not charge for shipping. I'd probably be getting around 8-10 lbs worth of beans in case there is a quantity or dollar amount tied to a free shipping promotion.

Thanks for any suggestions.

At the risk of being unpatriotic, I prefer to order from Sweet Maria's. even paying $45 shipping on 10 lbs the cost was less than Greenbeanery. It annoys me that the same coffee that costs $8/lb at SM's costs more than $13 at Greenbeanery. It can't cost that much more to ship from Kenya to Toronto than to Oakland, CA and the exchange rate has been around par for years. Ordering from Greenbeanery you pay what you'd pay for top quality ROASTED beans by the time you pay the shipping.

I agree...I stopped ordered from them as well due to prices.  I loved their Espresso Choco, but can get ROASTED beans for the same price delivered to my door for less $.

After having a quick look at SM's site, they do have a better price per pound than Greenbeanery but the shipping is just killer. Shipping for me for a single 10lbs bag is almost double from SM than GB. It also seems that SM has a far more interesting bean selection, whereas GB has just lots of beans to choose from Sweet Maria's selection seems a bit more curated.

I don't know if I'd do justice to the beans I'd get from Sweet Maria's just yet (I'm still a fairly "green" roaster, har har), but it's something to consider once I get confident enough to roast a higher tier bean.

It seems for the time that the hunt continues for a more afordable green bean. Thanks for the imput guys.

I've been very happy ordering from Roastmasters.com.  My last purchase was 20 pounds of Amaro Gayo greens for $32.95 shipping.  I'd love to support GB but it's always significantly less expensive ordering from RM, and I've had nothing but great beans from them.

Roastmaster seems like a solid alternative, I might pick up my next batch of beans from them.

I can tell you one thing, if I plan on getting a Behmor 1600 I'll be getting it from Roastmasters! Thanks for the suggestion.

Do you have a local roaster that purchases green in bulk?
If so, Perhaps they'll sell you some green, as long as you purchase a few pounds of roasted coffee?
I gotta think you might have a big time roaster in the greater Saskatoon Metroplex! :>D

I have checked with the couple of local roasters (as stated in my original post) and the best I got for a deal was a couple of bucks less than their roasted coffee, which was still more than I could get it by ordering it myself. Also, Regina doesn't have much of a coffee culture that I've found and Saskatoon is about 250km (or 150 miles) from where I live.
