Hi European CoffeeGeeks...

I will be flying out to Berlin for a week this Sunday, and am hoping to find some decent espresso.  Can anyone recommend cafes in the Berlin area?

Thanks for your help.

Hi Yossarian,

to my mind you will find the best coffee in Berlin at "Bonanza Coffee Heros", Oderberger Str. 35.
The closest subway stop is "Eberswalder Str.", you have to take line U2.
They use a Synesso...

Also a very good spot is "Cafe Double Eye", Akazienstr. 22 B.

Have fun!

Cheers,
Jens

Can confirm that Bonanza is brilliant, was there yesterday, one of the coffee-related high points of this Euro trip.

Also I recommend Coffein Bar on Alte Schönhauser Strasse a bit south of Torstrasse. Good espresso with Manaresi beans and they do latte art. Unfortunately unlike Bonanza it is not smoke free (at least until January when nonsmoking regulations are allegedly coming in Germany)

Nice to see three places in Berlin.  Hope someone can comment them in geeks standards, in a bit details.

I can vouch that Coffein Bar in fantastic.  And now that Berlin went smoke free (on Jan 1) it will be even better!

Make sure if you intend to order a cafe macchiato, you specify, because saying simply "macchiato" will yield a latte macchiato, which is a big glass of hot milk with a shot dumped in.

hello World,

this is the first post I write down here.
The reason is, there are some more good coffee shop in Berlin, but you already talked about some good.

The main reason is, that the berlin coffee museum: www.kaffeemuseum-berlin.de - opened the door again, after a fiew month closing.

The next high point is on Sunday, 29th Juli 2008, between 2 and 7 p.m.

this is the programm:

show roasting: 2.15 |4.00 | 5.45
cupping: 2.45 | 4.39 |6.15

each group is limited up to 12 persons.

See you, Stefan ;)

Director of the Berlin Coffee Museum.
