Hi,
I am going to Italy soon and my wife is thinking of getting a simple espresso machine for her use when I am away. She is thinking of Nespresso or illy.
May I ask Coffeegeeks in Italy, how much are the illy ipercapsules and are they readily available in supermarkets? And how much are the Nespresso capsules and are they readily available in supermarkets?

I can't answer the availability and price question but I read a post on another forum where the illy came out on top vs. the Nespresso losing in only two categories - the variety of selection category (new capsules have been added to the illy line up since then) and price per capsule (but not by much - pennies) category.
The illy would get my vote if I were shopping today. That said, I still like my Nespresso machine and several of the capsules they offer.
I chew coffee beans with my teeth while gargling with 195 F water to enjoy coffee. What is this "coffee brewing" device you speak of?

Thanks. I have tried both. The geek in me thinks that the illy should be better. The concept is technically superior. However, my taste buds cannot tell which is superior.
If the price is the same, I would go for the illy. Besides, I am likely able to obtain a Gaggia machine for it at little cost.

The capsule is in three parts, as you can see from the image. The bottom end goes in first to the machine, the body holds the coffee and the top holds everything in. The color tells you what kind of coffee--black for bold, blue for long (for "long pulls") and green for decaf.
