hi all

im sure most of you are familiar with the famous Irish drink "guinness"

An espresso (in a clear vessel)
is basically a mini-pint of Guinness!

when i pull a shot I think of a pint,
and if i have a pint i think shots

I love both and have solved it by lining them up
espresso......guinness.......espresso.....guinesss etc etc

theres a heart-stopping schedule!!

slainte

Have you ever mixed them?

I seem to remember some talk of coffee flavored beer from the American North-West were they think of themselve as coffee fanciers as well as beer fanciers.

About 8 years ago Red Hook Brewery in Seattle introduced a bottled 'Espresso Stout'.

they ran with it for a year or two at which point in time it was discontinued.

P.S. I did hear a report on NPR about 1 month ago where a Brewery in England-not sure where exactly- was in the process of introducing a coffee-flavored beer. I don't believe it was a stout; the hosts of the show tried it and reacted with a thumbs down on the quality aspects (perhaps they were used to drinking room temperature pints of bitter to provide an objective opinion, but I am just rationalizing!)

There was a fashion in some British pubs to 'draw' a heart or shamrock in the head of a guinness, don't see it so often these days.I wondered if this was started by a barista who during the day poured lattes and pulled pints in the evening.

The breweries up here seem to do this on a regular basis, generally in the winter when stouts are more popular.  Pretty good stuff, actually.

If you want to mix alcohol and coffee, try this:  A double shot of espresso plus a shot of Kahlua and a shot of vodka (or adjust to taste).  This recipe has appeared several places.  It is tasty but don't drink more than one unless you want to have a very lively evening!

I was in Rochester, NY over the Christmas holiday; and at one bar I got a shamrock poured into the head of every Guinness I ordered. The barman filled the glass 80%, let it settle, then topped off with the shamrock pour by rapidly moving the pint beneath the tap.

Now, I'd like to take 3 or 4 pints of Guinness, scoop off the heads into my steaming pitcher; and see if I could pour some Guinness art into an espresso! What do you think?

I think after 3 or 4 quick pints you'd be lucky to hit the cup :)
