Does anyone know where I can get one from?

Thanks for that url, but I had already tried them and they said that the blank filter is only suitable for Matthew Algie machines.

Anyone else got any suggestions?

What exactly is a Matthew Algie machine? They're just a big coffee wholesaler, and the parent company of Espresso Warehouse. I think that they import a number of different types of machine, although my attempts to find out what via Google searches have not been a success.

As far as I understand it a generic 58mm blank will fit most machines with a 58mm handle. My friend Eward (aka "Sunnyfield" on this forum) bought one of these from Espresso Warehouse and uses it quite happily on his VBM Domobar.

It seems likely that whoever you spoke to didn't know what they were talking about.

You asked what a Matthew Algie machine was, I have to say that I am not really sure, although I noticed when I went to their premises for barista training that their machines all have their name on them, there was no indication as to who the manufacturer was.

Well that is what I would have thought too.  I did say that to the lady on the phone and she said that they have been told to say that they are only for Matthew Algie machines.  I suppose that it is to cover themselves if it doesn't fit someones machine.  Seeing as your friend uses one though I shall assume its fine and get one :)

Thanks

Hi
I thought I would need one of these when I bought my E2K (but it came with one).  However I asked my local coffee merchant if he could supply, see my post marked 'Hacienda La Illusion'.  I'm not sure of the cost, but if Ken says he can get you one then he will.

Cheers

Have you considered measuring the bottom of your basket and just cutting out a circle of rubber to rest in the bottom of the basket and plug up the bottom of your basket? It will work (if you want you can pay money and people will sell you one of these with a little nipple on top to assist in pulling it out when you are done backflushing).

I would think the flat, thin, rubber stopper you buy at a department store for plugging the drain in a sink or tub would make good raw material for one of these. You might even be able to cut two blanks out a larger one.

I am afraid that the buck stops with me as I look after Espresso Warehouse. Dont see any reason why the 58mm blank filter insert will not suit any machine that requires this size. We have porta filter baskets for Elektra machines in the main.

I will whip our telesales people into shape. Any future confusion feel free to contact for clarification. Its always good to get feedback.

Hi Gary...
As owner of 3 'blank' baskets (including one from you guys), two that came with machines and one which was ordered - I suspected this to be the case...thanks for weighing in..

They are identical when sitting on the counter next to each other, yet came from three companies. Any of them would fit any 58mm PF handle since they are quite shallow.

I also own a rubber plug model that came with something, and it works fine too.

Mmmm, Larry - I don't think that this is the Espresso Warehouse that you think it is. This one's in Glasgow, Scotland. Surely you didn't order from there?
