Hello all. I will be travelling through London for about 1 week & am seeking out advice on an excellent shot of espresso. I've heard of Flat White in Soho & am planning on going there. Any advice would be much appreciated. peace

Hi James,
Thanks for the post. Monmouth looks fairly central and I'll be sure to drop in for an espresso or three! The depressing state of espresso was highlighted by an earlier post "Found : 1 great coffee in scotlan!". Man, that both cracked me up and depressed me at the same time. LOL
Now, for a tougher question. Will I be able to find a decent coffee in Coventry?
Monmouth street is very central. Covent Garden is my favorite area of London. If you get off a Leicester Square tube station (covent garden station is too busy for me to handle), Monmouth is 5 minutes in one direction, and Flat White is ten ten minutes in the other direction. They both use monmouths espresso blend, but treat it sligtly differently. Be prepared, coffee is a little more expensive than in Melbourne.

It would crack me up if it wasn't so serious. I've just been to Rome for a week. Coffee is of an excellent standard there. Not perfect, but close. You can walk into nearly any espresso bar and have a decent coffee. For epsresso you usually pay 65 - 80 euro cents, and for a capp 1.00 - 1.20. So awesome. All the paninis and baked goods are so awesome too. Did I mention ice cream. Now I'm back in England where the culinary standard seems to be like the weather and the coffee.

agree with all of the above. Flat White is spot on and Monmouth coffee is the best you'll find in London. i'd also recommend the Providores (http://www.theprovidores.co.uk/prv.html) for brunch at the weekend - super-popular and awesome monmouth-based coffee.
If you're a regular at flatwhite I've probably seen you there! Will be back in London midweek, maybe even tomorrow. you can email me high_knight@hotmail.com .
