You should also try out the espresso at Caffe' Caldesi in Marylebone Lane, off Marylebone High St. It's been excellent every time I've tried it.

Flat White for espresso, Monmouth for single estate brewed to order drip.

No one else to really get overexcited about.

Monmouth rocks and I quite liked Tinderbox but I've only been there once so it might have been a fluke.

Best shot I ever had was at a Costa on the M3 at a set of services!!!  However I reckon that was really a total fluke.

Which services? I travel on the M3 quite often but never eat at services if I can help it - might give it a go.

Cheers

Just adding my two-penneth to the Flat White+Monmouth being the only 2 good places over here. I've been here for 5 years (from NZ) and it has been pretty dire thus far. Those 3 shops have been my salvation.

Anyone here enjoyed the cafe culture back in NZ? Wondering if my favourite old cafes are still running *sniff*

Merrica, I've been home recently - what were your faves?

I'll be at Flat White on Saturday - any other CG'ers planning to hit close to 12ish?

Well, I have recently returned from my travels.

I visited Flat White as suggested by many here on GC. And, I was not dissapointed in the slightest. I asked for a double ristretto (which wasn't on the menu) and the barista happily obliged. What I recieved was a well balanced shot that had good body, was lightly nutty, not a hint of bitterness, and was not a 5oz drink trying to be passed off as something it was not. Also, the flat white had a well presented 7 leaf rosetta.

The barista (sorry, but I've spaced the name - cool guy from Melbourne) focused solely on the pour, but then came over for a chat afterwards. Quite friendly & personable staff. All in all probably the best coffee experience I had on my travels. If I ever live in London I will become a local.

peace

I saw in the recent NZ Cuisine Magazine a quick tip of the hat to Flat White and Providores (plus the Tapa Room).

It was an article about how some kiwis are doing in London, but its definitely good to hear good experiences from people first hand!

having just signed up i hadn't seen the united kingdom forum before was going to drop in and suggest Flat White, as its getting close to daily visit for me. i'm yet to drink in the monmouth store itself, i buy there espresso blend, when i moved to london was suprised to find generally a lack of quality cafes,

while its not on a the level of flat white, verdi's is a restaurant jutting into the sea on the quee, erm key, erm conrete bit harbour thingy, (spellings not my strong point) in the mumbles (near swansea) was the first time i ever saw microfoam

i'm just so happy to work in the building almost directly behind flat white, if only i could set up some kind of pully to get flat whites directly to my desk

Thanks to whoever kicked off this thread, and the short but sweet summary - I'm going to be in London for a week shortly and this is a great help. Went to Monmouth last year by chance - it also has the advantage of being close to one of the best cheese shops in London. That is definitely better than Melbourne.
