Im relativly new to the game, and having a lot of fun on my new gaggia.
what I would like tho is to go somewhere and have an espresso that really sets the benchmark for me.
My current espressos taste nice, but i dont know what an amazing espresso tastes like...
Does anyone know of anywhere in my region that does "good" espresso...??
thanks

On the toomuchcoffee forums recently there was a chap who worked at Jamie Oliver's Fifteen restaurant in Watergate Bay, who seemed to talk sense and be genuinely interested in espresso. He said that his restaurant in particular were using beans from a place called Origin based in the SW. Their website links to a 'featured cafe' called Relish in Wadebridge and according to them: "Relish is owned and run by Hugo Hercod and his partner Sarah Townsend.  Hugo is a self-confessed coffee freak - he is ranked amongst the top eight baristas in the country having competed in the finals of the 2006 UK Barista Championships".

In fact - that made me think... James Hoffman (who is a member here) posted about the recent SW Barista Heats on his website. Shame you missed the event, as that would have been invaluable experience. However,  from what Jim says Relish should be well worth a visit.

I'd be interested to hear further. I occasionally get down to Cornwall, and had always assumed it is a coffee desert.

Hello folks....

Just been checking on press for the UK Barista champs and found your post.. pleased to meet you.

If you get round to visiting us at Relish in Wadebridge, be sure to introduce yourself. Cornwall is a bit of a wilderness but there are a few geeks, mostly trained by Origin (a local coffee supplier with a genuine interest in improving coffee rather than just making money). I have to drink tea on my day off.....that's how bad it is.

As for good coffee, I'm just trying a new triple certified blend (organic, fairtrade and rainforest alliance) which makes a helluvan espresso and thrives in milk. I'm using it in the finals of the UK champs this weekend so it'll be interesting to see what the judges think of it.

Regards

Hugo
