Subject: A Weekend In London

I live in quite a backwards city that got its first Starbucks towards the end of last year and has only had a Costa for a couple of years.  I'm yet to find any smaller indie coffee shops in the city centre that seem to care about the quality of their coffee, a couple serve coffee of a similar standard to the big chains, but charge a lot more, driving me straight into Starbucks.

So it would be rude of me not to make the most of my time in London.  I'm sure three days will give me enough time for a few visits to Flat White and one of the branches of Monmouth.

But what about buying some beans?  Without buying online, a large studenty overdraft prevents me from doing so, the best coffee I can get hold of at the moment is from Whittards.  I'm yet to have a bad experience with them and I understand anything that isn't sold within three weeks of roasting gets thrown away, but it would be nice to return from London with some beans that had been roasted 2-3 days ago at most, rather than weeks.  I was thinking of looking at the beans Monmouth sell?  Is there anywhere that will flog me some green beans?

I'll have a travelcard and a good 5-6 hours on the Sunday to hit anywhere in London that you all recommend.  Any suggestions?

Monmouth have superb beans, you won't need to look anywhere else. As far as greens are concerned, I don't know if they sell them "front of house" so to speak, but you could always ask.

Cheers for the heads up on the thread.  It was on the front page of the UK forum when I signed up, in a funny way it made me feel at home, I thought the chances of there being a thread about Cornwall were slim.  But living in the corner of the county I'm in it isn't easy for me to get to anywhere not on the train network and cheaper to pre-book a coach to London.

I haven't heard a bad word about Monmouth's beans, which is good enough for me.  But it made sense to check seeing as there seems to be a few Londoners around these parts.  I'm still open to suggestion if there is anywhere else that I should really check out.
