Hi all, I'm thinking of opening my own coffee/cake/cycling shop, its early days just thinking about it at the moment as part of our 5 year plan. I was wondering if any of you guys on here run/own your own placethat isn't a franchise where you have free reign on what you can bake for the shop etc. and whether you could offer any advice on starting your own shop such as courses to take (accounting book keeping etc).
I have been looking at getting qualified as a Barista from the London school of coffee, do you think its worth getting qualified for this type of thing an dhas anybody done their training course?
I stumbled across Bea of Bloomsburys website and was thinking it may be along those lines - I think she posts on here no? If you do Bea please contact me so we can have a chat as your cakes look awesome and I'd love to knwo more!
Any help and advice people can give would be really great.

Word up to Tim there
I'm about to open my own place, but not without a few years of witnessing other peoples mistakes and successes under my belt. There are many pitfalls and I've seen enough money to bail out Iceland wasted on poorly conceived ideas. I've also had the opportunity to be a part of some successes- you can't substitute experience.
Time and money are inversely proportionate - spend one, save the other.
