Plenty of parking available, they do have a lot, and one across the street too I think....

Will there be any samplings offered at the event?  Coffee sales?

Posted January 6, 2006 link

We (Intelligentsia) will be serving free drip coffee.

She's one of the best baristas in town...I hope she finds a position soon so I can bug her for shots at lunch time!

BTW...I am going to try to sneak up there on Sunday, but it is hectic here!

Posted January 6, 2006 link

BJ is here today at the Roasting Works, and it sounds like she will likely be pulling shots at at a new shop soon.

See Y'all at the event!

Steve,
I was seriously thinking of coming down to Chicago, but I recently decided to visit my parents in Seattle.  Will probably check out that new LM machine while there--maybe put down a deposit.  We'll see.  Next time I'm definately coming down to see the competition.   Rob

quick report:
Ellie Matuszak- incredibly smooth! this is the first comp I have seen, but wow- she was definitely professional in all moves. example: wrong music starts, she points it out, but says "it's okay" and keeps moving. she also checked to make sure no judges were allergic to the almond butter for the sig drink. I was surprised she used a blend she made for the comp- "warm in winter"

Hi Rob,

I can see that you have a tough choice to make, Seattle vs. Barista Comp.  I think I would pick Seattle as well.  I am running errands today, but I'll go to the final tomorrow...Have fun in Emerald city...

Any coffeegeeks in the area- You need to go to this! The competitors really put a lot of work into their presentations. Besides the actual competition you end up being in the same room as some of the most knowledgable and passionate coffee people around. Everyone I chatted with was really friendly.

I am sorry I don't have a more detailed report on all of the competitors, I was excited enough at the beginning of the day to post from my tiny treo keyboard. I also did not see all of the competitors, as I needed to sneak out for some food partway through.
Random observations/impressions:
Matt Riddle- very precise in his movements, crisp.
Amber Sather- I loved the layered look of her sig drink.
Steve Fritzen- he really appeared to be having a good time, like he wan't feeling pressured at all.

If I can drag myself out of the house that early on a Sunday, I will be there.  I'll be the "big guy" with the thin wallet....just ordered a Brewtus II on Thursday to replace Silvia.
