I've got an espresso machine on the way and I need to know good places to go so I can get an idea of what I'm aiming for.
My husband works with a coffee enthusiast who has been a barista at a few places. According to him, Genova on 75th & I-35 is the best espresso. Any other options on good places? I noticed that the Roasterie was mentioned in a previous thread.

I think the Roasterie just does the roasting business.. the other place I've heard the most about is Broadway Cafe, in Westport. I've had some beans from them, they're pretty good. Most think that Genova is the best in the area, though.

P.S. you do have a good grinder on the way with the espresso machine, correct? ;-)

Conratulations on your new purchase. It just happens that the Roasterie will be hosting a Barista jam tonight at their facilities at 2601 Madison in KC, MO. It's around 24th and Broadway....right around the corner from Union Station. The jam is from 6-10pm. Informal, free and lots of fun. About 20-40 espresso enthusiasts from around the area and abroad have been getting together once a month every month for the last year. We learn, practice on the machines and prepare for competition. Oh, did I mention that it was free??? Open to the public. E-mail me if you have any questions. Would love to see you there.....my name is Sandy.
BTW: The Roasterie is a Roaster, not a retailer...ie: not an espresso bar. I've never tried Genova but there are some pretty good espresso bars in the area. My top two would be Broadway Cafe and PT's Coffee in Overland Park.
Of course, my most favorite place is Java Jazz in Johnson County Community College. (that's where I work!!) Stop in and visit sometime, I'd love to pull a few shots for you and give you a few pointers.

Wow. Thanks for the fast responses. I had seen a post earlier about the Roasterie that said "The espresso's are true nectar's of the gods...Incredible" and was surprised because I thought that Roasterie only sold beans. However, I've never been in there, so I didn't know. Looking back at the post, I think the person meant their beans and I just misunderstood.
I have a Sylvia and a Cunill grinder on the way (thanks AuntConsuela!). I'm a complete newbie to the espresso world, but have always loved good coffee and milk based drinks. I just came back from Genova and enjoyed the double that I had there. I'm not sure yet if I'll become a straight espresso drinker, but it was enjoyable.
Sandy, thanks for the info! I'll definitely try to be there. My husband just said that he's going if I don't. We'd both go, but someone has to stay home and put our son to bed. :)

There's another barrista jam tomorrow night.
What's this about Genova reopenning? Last I heard it was still closed.
I am not actually in Kansas City, just a few miles south but I have an espresso cart that's been open a month and my main espresso blend is Malabar Gold, same as Genova used.

Hey Zepplin~
Which Roasterie espresso do you use? Sandy and I used them in the MWRBC and Sandy participated in the USBC also. We have our drip form them and I am trying to coax my boss into switching to their espresso.
