So the wife and I will be taking a trip to Tulsa over the summer. I've heard good things about DoubleShot, and I'm planning on making a stop, but are there any other worthwhile cafés in the area?

Indeed there are.

Let me get back to you on that.  (I have a source)

So I'm going to rip off the TX thread more and compile a list of members in OK and their region if everyone is cool with that... Just post where you are from.

Good!  It's about time someone did!

Hopefully this year we'll see some OK love in the SCRBC.  We missed you fools in '07.

There aren't any that really stand up to DoubleShot in terms of quality and commitment to coffee.  Brian can be prickly, I guess, but he's always been more than friendly with me.  Those guys know their stuff and their drinks show it.

These are the other notable shops that I know of in Tulsa:

Shades of Brown Coffee & Art
I think they're using Caffé Vita espresso, but I'm not sure.  I've seen some impressive latte art from this place, but I'm not a big fan of the Swift Grinder setup.  I like their Prague Mocha-- it's unique and definitely not as sweet as the Starbucks style mochas everyone else is selling.

Cafe Cubana
Serves Intelligentsia Black Cat espresso.  They've got a giant humidor in there in case you also like cigars.
1328 E 15th St
Tulsa, OK 74120
(918) 584-2233

Nordaggio's Coffee
These guys roast their own stuff.  The last shot I had from them was very smoky and tobacco-heavy.
8156 S Lewis Ave # C
Tulsa, OK 74137

Coffee House On Cherry Street
I've heard they're not bad but I haven't visited in ages.
1502 E 15th St
Tulsa, OK 74120
(918) 779-6137

Gypsy Coffee House
Stay away. Stay far, far away. No offense to anyone who may be tied to this shop... but I hated the drink I had.  Decent atmosphere and all but horrible coffee.

If you're feeling extra adventurous, you could drive about 45 minutes north to Bartlesville and try out Jude's.  It's on Highway 75 right next to Food Pyramid, just as you're coming into town.  Danny is active in SCAA and their espresso (Herkimer? -- not sure on spelling) is very good stuff.

Judes' uses Herkimer as their house espresso but also offer a selection of Zoka coffee (Espresso Paladino previously was their house roast, i believe they still offer Zoka single origin as their drip coffee). I generally pick up a pound of Herkimer every time I am back in town (I used to live in bartlesville and work at Judes, just as an FYI) .  Danny is the guy you want to talk to if you're in bartlesville, he is easiest to find around the shop most in the morning but he is there in and out all day. Without contest he is the friendliest, most passionate coffee lover I have ever met and will not hesitate to share a bit of it with anyone willing to listen. It would be well worth the trip just to talk with him.

There is all ways more to learn.

Do you have any info on the event yet? The whole Coffee Slingers crew was planning on closing up shop a few days to go watch... Perhaps someone might even be brave enough to take on EspressoTrainer.com? ;)

It will most likely be in Austin, and it will be sometime in October.

That's the scoop thus far.

p.s. - I sent you an email just a minute ago.  I hope the email address was right.  If you didn't get it, will you please email me at Jason(AT)TX-Coffee.com ?

DoubleShot's having a latté art contest on the 28th of August. Unfortunately, I canno make it as some of my students have a concert that night. Is anyone planning on attending?
