Greeting Michigan Coffee Geeks
I am pleased to announce that this fall MadCap Coffee Company will be opening in downtown Grand Rapids. We are a coffee shop start-up that is committed to widening the third wave concept in the Western Michigan area. We pride ourselves in being quality obsessed serving only the highest-grade coffees roasted in small batches on site and only prepared by baristas that have been certified through our intensive two-month minimum certification program. We will be roasting on an IR-12 Dietrich and slinging shots on a three group La Marzocco GB-5.
A quick breakdown of our core and experienced staff includes: -Trevor Corlett, 8 years in the industry, 7th place GLBC 2008, 22nd place 1st round USBC -Ryan Knapp, 2 years in the industry, 8th place GLBC 2008, 25th place 1st round USBC -Laura Feldman, 3 years in the industry -Naomi Sorrell, 2 years in the industry
We are excited to become part of the Grand Rapids and Western Michigan area. Feel free to contact us if you have any questions at info@madcapcoffee.com. And check out our website www.madcapcoffee.com and blog www.madcapblog.com for any updates. We’ll try to keep you posted with the details.
Lastly. We were wanted to throw a coffee geek party prior to opening. Is there any interest in that? Let us know. Thanks

I am really looking forward to this. I am an avid home barista, but I'd actually like to find a place to buy coffee if I am out. I just cannot stomach the Biggby's/Starbuck's/Paramount roasted dreck served around here. PLEASE do the open house party thing. PLEASE serve subtly nuanced, unburnt blends. PLEASE! I want somebody to make me a decent cuppa when I'm not at home.
We close to closing on a spot right in the heart of downtown. 98 Monroe Ctr. It's on the corner of Monroe and Ottawa. Caddy Corner from the Art Museum and Rosa Parks Mall.

There are several coffee shops downtown, but we find that to be an inherent reason for us to set up shop. Coffee must be a sustainable commodity downtown, if so many local and corporate shops are able to coexist in financial stability. Our process, presentation, and product is quite different from the rest of them, and we are confident that discerning [and curious] customers will find us amidst the coffee shop chaos.

Yay! I've been waiting to hear when and where this shop was going to happen since the GLRBC. My brother is in GR and now I will have another place to check out when I visit.

Hey! I just saw your post knappcap RE Ugly Mug, funny thing, when I went there last weekend they mentioned the new coffee shop that knows what they are doing opening up in Grand Rapids :).
I live out in Haslett, so you both will be about an hour away from me, which is well worth the trip every now and then to spend a day of dreaded grad school homework in a nice coffee shop.
I'm looking forward to this, have you guys opened up yet? I think Zach at UM said around winter time. You guys drilled that down any (if you're not already opened)?

zaman,
we haven't nailed down an official opening date yet. Our realistic estimate currently is between the 1st-15th of December. We will keep you all posted as it gets closer. On a good note our IR-12 Dietrich roaster is arriving tomorrow and we'll have a nice alternative to our 2k:-) Check our blog for updates and pics.
