Any suggestions?  I've heard Zingerman's in Ann Arbor roasts its own coffee.

I thought I had read that Zingerman's was focused more on their food business these days, but if they roast good espresso I'd like to try it.

The Ugly Mug in Ypsi roast their own and has great espresso.

If you get around the state you might try Magnum Coffee Roasters in Nunica (northwest of Grand Rapids) .  I haven't been able to nail it down for sure, but I have had some very dry, dark chocolate tasting espresso that is supposed to be from their beans.  When you go in their shop they use are small super auto made for the home, so it's hard to make a real decision on site.  That's what has kept me from buying and trying it at home.  I've never liked it there.

Also, don't rule out others in West and Northern Michigan, Great Northern in Traverse City, Leelanau in Empire, and Espresso Bay in Traverse (a coffee shop who roasts their own) or Great Lakes Chocolate and coffee in Sturgis (who also roasts their own and will sell you green beans as well).

I get around the state and haven't really had anything in the Detroit area jump out at me.  Let me know if I'm missing anything great.

Well we're not in the SE and our shop is not open yet but we are up and roasting. Our spro faired pretty well at both the Great Lakes regional and the US Barista competition this last year. You can check out our web site for more info. Our shop will be up and running sometime this November.
